Senior Underwriter - Warranty
AIG Warranty is hiring a Senior Underwriter. As a Senior Underwriter you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Underwriting, North America, in underwriting activities including: developing and managing appropriate premium rates for a variety of products across industries such as major appliance, consumer electronics, home warranty, portable electronics, and HVAC/R in accordance with Underwriting Authority and Guidelines; assisting junior team members in building current or new opportunities; supporting junior team members in developing technical and underwriting skills; working with actuarial teams in pricing activities; building new products with marketing and business development teams; and other underwriting and actuarial activities as-needed. This role’s responsibilities include the coordination, analysis and reporting of loss results, developing and implementing pricing proposals or rate adjustments, and business reviews with both internal and external business partners. The Underwriter will also identify program risks, process improvement opportunities and claim trends and work with the functional departments to implement necessary change. This underwriting role will focus on supporting a variety of tasks and underwriting activities and experience in the HVAC/R, home warranty, or consumer electronics space is strongly desired. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Develop client pricing proposals and work with actuaries where required. + Respond to stakeholder questions throughout the client lifecycle. + Extract, transform, and analyze complex data sets ensuring the highest data quality and integrity. + Assume client relationship and consulting responsibility for select accounts. + Accountability for underwriting results and loss performance associated with assigned accounts. + Design and implement business processes to eliminate or minimize losses and reduce operational and insurance costs. + Analyze loss projections and assumptions, and substantiate, with back-up data and research, all findings. + Utilize data analytics and root cause analysis to identify drivers of premium pricing. + Communicate performance and underwriting findings to internal and external business partners. + Develop and execute action plans as needed to remediate unfavorable loss and expense performance to strengthen the combined business performance. + Maintain highest level of documentation for accounts – original premium development support and decision-making process, operational considerations, and all related data to support subsequent pricing adequacy reviews. + Act as a mentor to junior-level underwriters. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + 3+ years of underwriting experience. + Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or other related studies required. + Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Intermediate knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications. + Understanding of SQL or other data extraction and manipulation tools is preferred. + Strong PC skills; proficient in Excel, experience in SQL preferred + Culture: Demonstrate commitment to: Excellence, Teamwork, Innovation, Initiative, and Can-do Attitude. + Presentation: Excellent presentation skills with a strong customer focus. + Communication: Develop rapport with Internal stakeholders and industry leaders. + Financials: Understanding of financials, profitability, and pricing. + Execution: Ability to develop, implement and provide oversight to processes that provide positive results.
