Senior Validation Engineer

The Validation Engineer position is a key player in the development of Caterpillar’s next generation of products. As the owner of Verification and Validation (V&V) activities on Hydraulic Mining Shovels (HMS) you will plan and drive V&V execution for Hydraulic Mining Shovels including testing at the Proving Ground and in the field. You will work with system and platform teams to identify, communicate, and replicate the best design, analysis, and test practices. The results of your work will be test machines (i.e. mule, prototype, pilot, etc.) that arrive at the Proving Ground or Customer Site for machine validation in good operating condition, technical and program risks quantified, and machine and system validation plans are thorough and documented. The Validation Engineer is a highly visible role. You will not only serve as a key advisor to the Technical Lead and New Product Introduction (NPI) lead but also routinely present to senior management in Design Reviews NPI Gateways, platform reviews, etc. Your work directly drives Caterpillar’s quality reputation. **What you will do:** + Create a validation strategy and activity plan, collaboratively, with platform, system, simulation, lab and Proving Grounds teams. Activities should favor virtual and lab-based techniques. + Stay informed on validation innovation and best practices throughout the enterprise and apply them to Hydraulic Mining Shovels. + Drive usage of tools such as Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) and Requirement Based Virtual Product Development to evaluate the effectiveness of the validation activity plan on critical failure modes, and direct activities to mitigate risk. + Communicate the need and lead the effort to develop new validation procedures as risks become known for which there is no robust method. + Prepare and present validation status at NPI Gateways. + Stay abreast of product new content and share with appropriate system teams. + Obtain Validation Strategy and Commitment from Validation Leaders. + Partner with Proving Grounds to establish in-iron testing plans. + Provide guidance to machine configurations for testing/validation. + Follow programs through the NPI program cycle and ensure Proving Grounds plans are executed on time and on budget. **What Skills you will have:** **Accuracy and Attention to Detail:** Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. **Effective Communications:** Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. **Analytical Thinking:** Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. **Decision Making and Critical Thinking:** Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive **Technical Excellence:** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. **Project Management:** Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. **Product Testing:** Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing. **Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. **Education Requerment:** Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum. **Additional Information:** The primary location for this position is Tucson, AZ. You will split time between the Tucson Mining Center and Tucson Proving Grounds. Domestic relocation assistance is available. This position may require 10% travel.
