Senior Vice President, Counsel- Employment Law

This role is located in NYC, NY Pittsburgh, PA OR Lake Mary, FL- hybrid 3 days- office

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

This Counsel level role provides specialized employment legal advice and support to a leading global financial services company, including, but not limited to: providing counsel to the People Business Partners (“PBP”) team and business or functional area leaders on employment related legal issues; investigating and defending claims and litigations; educating PBPs to mitigate employment law risks; and advising on the creation of best in class employment related programs and policies.  Must have knowledge of federal, state and city employment laws and regulations and, have the ability to advise, counsel and train clients on the same.  The candidate should have employment litigation experience as well as experience in handling charges of discrimination filed with federal, state and city human rights commissions and be able to manage all aspects of litigation, including managing outside counsel, case management and case strategy.  The candidate must also have strong negotiation skills.  Background in M&A employment issues and enforcement of restrictive covenants a plus. Also, the candidate should have experience drafting and negotiating employment and separation agreements and developing policies, templates and guidance to ensure compliance with various legal and business requirements.  Must have excellent legal and business judgment, a high degree of discretion, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, adapt to changing conditions and execute with excellence in a complex matrix environment. The candidate must have the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and drive them to conclusion in a timely manner.  

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

Advanced Legal Degree or local country equivalent degree usually required. Progression to this level usually requires licensure/certification by the local country or jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions, may not require licensure or certification for placement in the role, in others, licensure/certification is required.  3-7 years minimum work experience in the practice of employment law as a qualified attorney is preferred.  Prior corporate legal experience within the financial services industry or experience in assigned practice area (e.g., employment) with an outside law firm is preferred.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $113,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
