Senior Vice President, Enterprise Strategy
Description: Job Summary:

The role of SVP, Enterprise Strategy is an enterprise-level role reporting directly to the EVP, Enterprise Strategy and Business Development. The SVP, Enterprise Strategy will serve as the chief strategy officer for the KP enterprise and will have overall responsibility and accountability for achieving growth, revenue enhancement, margin improvement, and diversification through new strategies, new products, market expansion, and performance improvement for both KP and Risant Health. Specifically, the SVP, Enterprise Strategy will: 

Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team, working with the Chief Executive Officers of KP and Risant, as well as senior leaders across the enterprise, to develop strategies both for the enterprise as a whole and for its component businesses.Lead the development and ongoing evolution of KP-s enterprise strategy, including providing guidance to the enterprise related to the healthcare industry and broader macro environmental trends that could affect KP.Monitor and analyze trends in local, regional, and national markets, including demographics, socioeconomic trends, utilization trends, competitor capabilities, and technology advancements, especially as they impact growth strategies, diversification, market expansion, and performance improvement. Recommend plans for growth, revenue enhancement, margin improvement, and diversification through new strategies, new products, market expansion, and performance improvement.Evaluate and recommend business development opportunities consistent with enterprise and individual business strategies, in collaboration with the SVP, Chief Business Development Officer.Lead and integrate the enterprise strategy, planning, and operating cycles. Lead processes and directly engage in the execution of strategic initiatives. Provide guidance and support to leaders across the enterprise in developing their operating and market plans.Develop and manage scaled strategic analytics, serving leaders across the enterprise.In collaboration with the ESBD leadership team, develop a high-performing team that develops individuals into future leaders. Serve as the primary business partner from ESBD to KP-s National Health Plan organization.Represent KP-s strategy as an external speaker, and support positioning of KP as a thought leader in the industry.Ensure KP-s Mission, Vision, Values and Operating Principles are consistently communicated and reflected in enterprise strategies.
Essential Responsibilities:

Enterprise and Business Strategy

Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team, working with the Chief Executive Officers of KP and Risant, as well as senior leaders across the enterprise, to develop strategies both for the enterprise as a whole and for its component businesses.Lead the development and ongoing evolution of KP-s enterprise strategy, including providing guidance to the enterprise related to the healthcare industry and broader macro environmental trends that could affect KP.Recommend plans for growth, revenue enhancement, margin improvement, and diversification through new strategies, new products, market expansion, and performance improvement.Evaluate and recommend business development opportunities consistent with enterprise and individual business strategies, in collaboration with the SVP, Chief Business Development Officer.Engage with Boards of Directors for the KP enterprise as it relates to the changing external environment and KP-s strategy.Define success for KP-s enterprise strategy, encompassing financial and operational performance, growth objectives, community affordability, and increase in healthy years.Lead strategy teams in identifying the business problem to be solved, identify potential options to address the business problem, evaluate and prioritize strategic options, and arrive at recommendations as to the best path forward.Direct and create compelling business cases for new opportunities. Ensure that each opportunity is clearly articulated and well supported by data and strategic rationale.Collaborate with Finance and relevant business leaders to align the enterprise economic plan with the strategy.Develop and refine perspectives on the healthcare market landscape, trends influencing its evolution, and current and future competitor dynamics. Build awareness of healthcare market trends amongst KP-s senior leadership to inform decision-making.Develop and refine perspectives on KP-s current position and capabilities within the healthcare ecosystem, including markets in which it currently operates and adjacent opportunities.Ensure senior leaders are engaged in, own, and feel accountable for success of the strategy, both holistically and for specific initiatives.Frame key issues and lead special projects as needed to develop or refresh key strategies.Develop enterprise expectations for market and functional plans.

Strategic Initiatives

Accelerate adoption of change and new strategies in the organization.Create the executive-level approach for strategy execution, governance and tracking at the enterprise level.Ensure initiative success through a combination of oversight, transparency, support and problem solving (barrier removal).Ensure appropriate consistency for initiatives that require implementation in the markets with playbooks, change management and operational execution support.

M&A Strategy and Transaction Support

Lead the development of the strategic criteria for transactions, and support identifying, prioritizing, evaluating, selecting, negotiating, and executing transactions based on strategic criteria. Ensure that each transaction aligns with the organization-s long-term goals and objectives.Lead the identification of merger and acquisition opportunities and assess strategic alternatives. Working with the Business Development team, support negotiations of transactions with senior leaders of target organizations. Support development of strategic business cases in collaboration with KP and external advisors such as banking and consulting firms.

Market and Competitive Intelligence

Monitor and analyze trends in local, regional, and national markets, including demographics, socioeconomic trends, utilization trends, competitor capabilities, and technology advancements, especially as they impact growth strategies, diversification, market expansion, and performance improvement. Deliver actionable business intelligence ensuring that strategic decisions are well informed and effectively executed.In collaboration with National Health Plan, oversee development and maintenance of KP-s market and competitive intelligence data and support functions, including monitoring healthcare industry trends, local market dynamics, and competitor activity.Lead the development of a comprehensive database of market characteristics and growth across a range of geographies, relevant industries, and other relevant dimensions.

Strategic Planning

Provide guidance and support to leaders across the enterprise in developing their operating and market plans.Support leaders in procuring strategy consulting support as needed, working across teams and with Procurement to ensure efficient use of strategy consulting spend across the KP enterprise.Lead processes to monitor and adjust progress toward key success measures for the enterprise strategy and on related strategic initiatives, creating visibility for senior leaders and Boards of Directors.Align and coordinate the various enterprise planning processes to ensure common direction and cohesion with enterprise strategy: strategic planning, market plans, national functional planning, rate setting, capital planning and budgeting. Participate in industry forums and speaking engagements.Ensure alignment with enterprise goal setting, performance reviews, and leadership incentives. Partner with the broader Enterprise Strategy and Business Development leadership team and the Office of the CEO to support Board and senior leadership cadence and meeting planning to align with the enterprise strategy and execution.

Market and Function Strategy Support

Provide guidance and support to leaders across the enterprise in developing their operating and market plans by developing playbooks, providing strategy analytics support, and building and deploying skills-building programs.Lead priority strategy projects in collaboration with functional and market teams.

Industry Thought Leadership and External Business Relationships

Identify and cultivate new business relationships that support the organization-s growth objectives (including business development), building upon an existing deep network of healthcare industry relationships.Develop and sustain a network of external peers, delivery system leaders, consultants, bankers, and other marketplace experts to stay informed about industry trends and opportunities.Explore opportunities for acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures, and other strategic relationships.Engage key internal and external stakeholders to establish communications and engagement plan on positioning KP as an industry leader.

Talent development 

Building core strategic capabilities both within ESBD and as a convener of strategists across the KP enterprise.Mentor and develop team members within the strategy function to build a strong strategic capability within the organization.Identify talent needs and support recruitment efforts to strengthen the strategy team.Manage resource capacity and allocation to ensure appropriate progress.Supervise, coach, and develop key members of the team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring the team is equipped to meet the organization-s strategic goals. Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in strategy and / or business development, at least 10 of which are within the healthcare industry Education
Bachelor-s degree License, Certification, Registration N/A Additional Requirements:
Demonstrated political savvy; able to operate in complex and matrixed organization and remain effective. Must have personal influence and credibility to be able to work from behind the scenes within a complex process.Understanding of the current healthcare industry, investments, regulations, and legislation affecting the strategic direction of the industry.Experience leading strategy, competitive intelligence, research, analytics, and business development teams in complex healthcare organizations.A track record of working collaboratively with a diverse array of key stakeholders and the business discipline that demonstrates the ability to execute with speed and precision on strategic priorities and key initiatives.Proven experience building strong teams and developing talent.Values that align with Kaiser Permanente and its mission. The SVP, Enterprise Strategy must have authentic alignment with KP-s culture to succeed. Leadership as a core competency. The executive must be able to demonstrate experience in developing innovative strategies, building the teams and coalitions needed to bring ideas to reality and validated successes that produce results. Ability to integrate into a large, complex, and action-oriented organization. The SVP, Enterprise Strategy must be an integral part of leading the entire Kaiser Permanente enterprise, leveraging the structures, resources and systems that will enable success.
