Job Description

Apex is seeking an analytical and project management-oriented Senior Energy Analyst to play a critical role in development and design of wind projects, helping to increase efficiency, performance and value in Apex projects. The Senior Energy Analyst is responsible for independently managing project work, conducting detailed analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to inform development, financing, construction, and operation of Wind Power Projects. The Senior Energy Analyst will work within the Technology team and interact with multiple disciplines in the company to ensure relevant data and analysis drives decision making and overall project quality. The candidate for this position should be flexible and capable of working in a dynamic team of professionals and is familiar and confident with all aspects of wind energy assessment.

The Senior Energy Analyst position requires equally excellent communication, project management and technical skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and the flexibility to shift priorities on the go. A passion for renewable energy is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

Measurement Campaign Design: Develop and manage the meteorological campaign for assigned projects for the duration of data collection, aiming to reduce project uncertainty and implement industry best practices for data collection, while coordinating with the measurements team and developers.Meteorological Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret meteorological data to assess wind resource potential and support project development.Optimization of Wind Layouts: Utilize advanced modeling and analysis techniques to optimize wind farm layouts for maximum efficiency and energy production.Environmental Modeling: Simulate and interpret environmental models for sound and shadow flicker.Energy Production Estimation: Estimate energy production and uncertainty using statistical and analytical methods to support commercial teams.Peer Review: Participate in peer review of other team members’ wind analysis, layout design, and energy production estimates.Project Management: Lead and manage wind energy design across a multi-disciplinary team from origination through construction, ensuring milestones are met and project objectives are achieved.Coordinate with 3rd Parties: Responsible for initiation, scoping, and review of external studies, including wind resource and energy production estimates, sound modeling, and shadow flicker analysis. Review 3rd party analyses/external studies when received, ensuring the deliverables meet the intended scope and identifying any errors or questions. Disseminate results to various internal and external groups in support of commercial and permitting efforts.Due Diligence: Provide technical due diligence review and production estimates for potential wind project acquisitions.Research and Development: Lead and contribute to R&D initiatives, process improvement, and documentation of technical processes. Contribute to an environment of continuous improvement while keeping up to date with industry-leading methods and standards.Travel: Occasional travel is required to project sites (<25%)

Qualifications

To succeed as a Senior Energy Analyst at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Wind Resource Assessment.Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Meteorology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.Technical Skills: Proficiency in wind resource assessment tools, meteorological data analysis (Windographer), optimization and energy production estimation software (Openwind), Microsoft Office Suite, experience with data analysis programming languages such as Python, R, Ruby, SQL, MATLAB, etc.Project Management: Proven experience in managing projects independently, with strong organizational and leadership skills.Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.Attention to Detail: Maintain high accuracy in data analysis, reporting, and project documentation to ensure the quality and reliability of project outcomes.Problem Solving: Identify and resolve complex technical and operational issues that arise during project development.Collaboration: Work effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, finance, permitting, and environmental specialists to integrate diverse perspectives and expertise into project planning and execution.Prioritization: Efficiently prioritize tasks and manage time to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.Communication: Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to present findings, provide updates, and facilitate discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders.Knowledge, both technical and commercial, of how renewable energy assets are developed, constructed, operated and financed.Preference for the position to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VARemote work may be approved for the right candidate

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
