Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer.  This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

What You'll Get To Do:

The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Defense System team supporting the Air Force’s Sentinel program. This will include development, production and deployment of Launch Equipment hardware and systems for each weapon system facility. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where you will interact with users, customers and other engineers.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

Research, develop, plan, design, analyze and test Mechanical components, equipment and systems used as part of our ground operational hardware.

Perform detailed hardware design including part selection, schematic, developing CAD models and conducting cable/signal routing.

Support mechanical design of multiple ground distribution boxes.

Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems within Launch Equipment.

Provide supplier oversight and troubleshooting during fabrication of our hardware.

Work either individually or as part of a team to develop test procedures and hardware to verify engineering models.

Prepare reports, briefings and design documents (drawings and specifications) in order to present status to the Air Force and program leadership.

Supports the delivery of Mechanical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.

Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.

Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.

Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.

Developing and maturing Mechanical System designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications: 

Bachelor's of Science STEM degree with 8 years of experience; Master's Degree with 6 years of experience; PhD with 4 years of experience. 

Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance granted or reviewed within the past 6 years.

Must have the ability to obtain, and maintain access to Special Access Programs (SAP)  as a condition of continued employment.

Experience performing CAD modeling with design tools such as Siemens NX or similar.

Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications.

Experience using product life cycle management tools.

 

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: 

Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly to both Government and corporate leadership.

Ability to understand and interpret requirements.

Leadership experience.

Experience reviewing and providing feedback on engineering designs based on latest industry standards.

Salary Range: $104,400.00 - $156,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
