Job Description

This position is Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote), based at our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. Flexibility for occasional travel may be required.

The Manager, SEO will lead the technical SEO strategy for our omni-channel retail platform, ensuring that our digital properties, including websites, mobile apps, and B2B experiences, are fully optimized to drive organic traffic and conversions. This role will involve leading a team of SEO specialists, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and overseeing all technical aspects of SEO, from site infrastructure to mobile optimization, while aligning SEO efforts with overall omni-channel marketing objectives.

What will you do?

Technical SEO Strategy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive technical SEO strategy tailored to the unique needs of an omnichannel retail business, focusing on driving organic growth, improving site health, and ensuring technical excellence across web and mobile platforms.Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of SEO specialists and analysts, ensuring they are aligned with the company’s goals and continuously improving their skills. Conduct regular training on technical SEO best practices.Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with product, technology, marketing, and UX teams to ensure seamless integration of SEO efforts into the broader omnichannel strategy. Advocate for SEO best practices in all technical and content-related decisions.Site Architecture & Crawlability: Lead efforts to optimize the site architecture, ensuring it is easily crawlable and indexable. Oversee the management of sitemaps, robots.txt files, and internal linking structures to maximize visibility and rankings across search engines.Mobile-First & Page Speed Optimization: Ensure that both desktop and mobile experiences are optimized for Core Web Vitals and mobile-first indexing. Collaborate with development teams to improve site speed, user experience, and performance, particularly for key retail areas like product pages and the checkout process.Structured Data & Schema Implementation: Oversee the implementation of structured data (e.g., product, review, FAQ schema) across all digital touchpoints to enhance search visibility and enable rich results. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in schema markup for omnichannel retail.Local SEO & Multichannel Optimization: Lead initiatives to optimize local search performance, ensuring store locations, hours, and other critical business information are consistent and up-to-date across Google, Maps and other directories. Integrate SEO strategies with in-store promotions and local marketing efforts.On-Page SEO Strategy: Develop and oversee on-page SEO best practices, including optimizing category pages, product descriptions, title tags, meta descriptions, and internal linking strategies across the website to drive organic traffic and improve conversion rates.SEO Reporting & Analytics: Define and monitor key SEO performance metrics (KPIs) using tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush. Create regular reports for senior leadership on the impact of SEO initiatives on traffic, rankings, and revenue.Algorithm Updates & Industry Trends: Stay informed about search engine algorithm updates and eCommerce SEO trends. Proactively adjust strategies to maintain and improve rankings in response to search engine changes and evolving customer behavior in retail.Technical SEO Audits & Implementation: Lead technical SEO audits, identifying and resolving key issues such as crawl errors, broken links, duplicate content, and server issues. Oversee technical implementation, working with developers to ensure SEO requirements are met.

Qualifications:

Deep knowledge of SEO tools such as Screaming Frog, SEMrush, Google Search Console, and Google AnalyticsProficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as it relates to SEOAbility to partner and collaborate effectively with development teams.Strong experience with structured data and implementing local SEO for multi-location retail businessesExpertise in mobile SEO, page speed optimization, and Core Web Vitals for both web and mobile platformsProven ability to drive SEO performance and contribute to omnichannel growth strategiesExcellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical SEO concepts to non-technical stakeholdersExperience with headless CMS, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) in relation to SEO preferredExperience working with eCommerce platforms (e.g., HCL, Shopify, Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud) preferredFamiliarity with server-side SEO (e.g., NGINX, Apache) and CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) as they pertain to large-scale retail sites preferred

Certifications, Experience, and Education:

Certifications: Google Analytics Certification or other relevant SEO/Analytics certifications a plus.Experience: 5-7 years of experience in a technical SEO role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position within eCommerce or omni-channel retailEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Business, eCommerce, Marketing or similar field of study; or equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
