Department Description
The Public Safety Department is responsible for the public safety of the Cambridge Health Alliance facilities and entities, and its surrounding grounds.
Summary
Responsible for the public safety of the Cambridge Health Alliance and its surrounding ground. Performs general law enforcement duties in the protection of persons and property and the enforcement of all applicable policies, rules and regulations of Cambridge Health Alliance and applicable federal, state and local laws to prevent losses due to accidents and incidents.
Responsibilities
Investigates crimes and other violations of Mass. Law and Ordinances.
Makes arrests, or sets up appropriate complaints for court for those in violation as needed.
Able to communicate using modern technology related to law enforcement. Ability to obtain, record and relay information accurately.
Escorts patients as needed.
Assists in the escorting of deceased patients.
Observe and detain patients who are in crisis and deemed in need of special services.
Investigates individuals or situations that appear to be of a suspicious nature.
Generates reports and logs as required.
Functions as a team member, participating in follow through or work that needs to be completed from the previous shift or weekend.
Adheres to proper attendance and absenteeism policy.
Provides for the safety and security of all patients, visitors and staff.
Complies with organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Secure and Patrol Alliance Properties on foot and/or in a radio equipped patrol vehicle.
Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Massachusetts Special State Police Officer.
Provides operational supervision on assigned Shifts.
Reviews and approves reports generated during assigned shifts.
Counsel and recommend corrective actions as appropriate.
Recognize and recommend Officers for acknowledgement of commendable actions.
Monitors attendance, shift swaps, overtime policies and procedures.
Inspect Officers for appearance, readiness and preparation for the shift.
May perform functions of the “Campus Security Officer” under the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and Performs other related duties as assigned or directed relating to Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of college education in law enforcement, security or related field and completion of a basic law enforcement training academy.
Three years’ prior experience as a law enforcement officer.
Considerable knowledge of security and law enforcement practices.
Ability to produce a concise, accurate, well written report.
Ability to solve problems on an independent basis. Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Licensure
Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Drivers License
Eligible to attain SSPO powers in accordance with Mass. GL 22c S63.
Valid Massachusetts FID Card
Certifications:
