LCRA is looking for a Server and Storage Engineer Sr to join the Generation Management System (GMS) team. As part of LCRA’s GMS team, your expertise will be supporting a 24X7 operation that strives to enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve. We are looking for someone with authoritative knowledge of server configurations, storage management, managing and patching the associated hardware. We are a team that thrives on finding innovative ways to improve the 24X7 operations of LCRA’s GenDesk, the development situational awareness tools and collaborates with LCRA’s generation plants, ERCOT and other entities while keeping our system NERC CIP compliant.
You will be trusted to:
- Perform complex operating system provisioning and administration including system patch management. Work with application users and data owners to maintain named user access controls within current security roles and coordinate systems life cycle events.
- Manage technology projects in accordance with Generation Management System guidelines and principles.
- Proactively monitor, analyze and review multi-platform computing environment and execute problem avoidance practices in order to maintain a high level of reliability and availability.
- Identify best and least cost infrastructure solutions that meet stringent security and availability requirements.
- Implement equipment using practical knowledge of DNS, LAN subnetting, and basic routing principals.
- Plan, document and communicate operating systems, physical host and ancillary resource configuration standards.
- Monitor relevant systems for availability and performance. Perform periodic metrics reporting to show continuous performance.
- Follow established GMS specific processes for change, configuration and problem management as well as regulatory requirements such as NERC/CIP.
- Act as technical lead on assigned projects. Take responsibility for completion of assigned project tasks.
- Actively participate in the monthly patching requirements per NERC CIP guidelines
- Conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards
- Maintain a comprehensive system of inventory and monitoring for supported hardware and software in compliant with NERC CIP guidelines.
- Ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a program of system backups appropriate to the operating system and resident application(s)
You qualify with:
- Nine or more years of experience in system configuration and/or operation, or other IT related field. A degree(s) in computer science, information technology or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
