Service-Learning Facilitator - SYEP
Hours: Part-Time; 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Reports To: SYEP Education Coordinator Organization Overview Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse population of Queens through an extensive network of programs for children, youth, adults, and older adults. Our mission is to empower individuals and families to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities. Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Service Learning Facilitator with a strong commitment to youth development to join our Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The ideal candidate will collaborate with SYEP staff, community members, and stakeholders to deliver engaging service-learning curricula that help participants explore their interests, build social connections, contribute to their communities, and develop meaningful life skills. Key Responsibilities + Facilitate 12.5 hours of weekly workshops and seminars for SYEP participants (ages 14-15) on service-learning topics, integrating subjects such as: + Financial literacy + Career and education exploration + Professional soft skills + Resume writing and interview preparation + Identifying and marketing transferable skills + Design and implement lesson plans and training materials that are engaging and relatable to young adults. + Oversee a high-quality youth development program that aligns with QCH’s mission and vision, contractual obligations, and best practices in youth programming. + Develop and utilize teaching aids, such as handbooks, visual aids, computer tutorials, field trips, and sector-specific activities, to support curriculum delivery. + Supervise off-site trips, ensuring appropriate staff-to-student ratios and participant safety. + Maintain comprehensive documentation and track program performance using required data collection tools. + Foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment that meets all compliance standards set by QCH, DYCD, and applicable labor laws. + Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding participant engagement, attendance, and additional support needs. + Attend supervision sessions with the SYEP Educational Specialist, monthly staff meetings, and quarterly agency-wide meetings. + Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications + Experience: + Minimum of 2 years of experience planning and facilitating workshops for youth on workforce and career topics. + At least 1 year of classroom management experience. + Education: + High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. + Skills and Competencies: + Ability to serve as a positive role model and connect with youth from diverse backgrounds. + Knowledge of Positive Youth Development (PYD), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and Youth Leadership frameworks. + Familiarity with NYC’s priority employment sectors. + Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. + Proficiency in computer applications and a willingness to learn new systems. + Cultural competency and sensitivity to participants’ heritage, traditions, and life experiences. + Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. + Compliance Requirements: + Must pass NYS DOH Fingerprinting Screening and Clearance Review Background Check. + Complete three reference checks. + Provide proof of a physical exam with an updated TB test. Additional Information + This is a temporary position with the potential for permanent opportunities. + The position is in-person; virtual learning experience is a plus. + Program Timeline: June 2025 – August 2025.
