GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE The Services District Educator (SDE) is responsible for developing high-performing services teams within one’s district who consistently deliver growth in salon hair sales. The SDE influences and educates all stylists within their district as well as the store leadership to drive performance fueled by education. The SDE is responsible for building an annual education calendar and training on techniques, business acumen, the latest trends, and new service launches. The SDE is a licensed cosmetologist who also contributes to the sales of the district by maintaining a personal clientele. The SDE is responsible for the technical assessment of all licensed service providers and contributes to salon retention and staffing through effective recruiting and training. This position requires a drive for results, high levels of business acumen, a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and an aptitude to continue to upskill one’s personal skill set to drive the success of others. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Job Functions) The Services District Educator is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned): Performance Build the Ulta Beauty brand through exceptional training, technical skills, product knowledge and behind-the-chair experience. Consistently deliver sales growth in hair services and professional hair product sales. Identify training needs by partnering with the services training team and implement programs to train salon professionals on all service behaviors, techniques and initiatives. Travel to district stores to evaluate and elevate behind-the-chair progress and business building behaviors for stylists. Elevate store leadership through regular store visits and teaching best practices that promote sales growth and drive a positive guest experience. Take the initiative to stay informed regarding new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work time, and be knowledgeable about the ingredients and benefits of these trends, products, and services to better serve guests. Maintain a limited clientele and service guests approximately 8 hours per week. People Build a team culture that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand, delivering exceptional service and modeling on-brand, Ulta Beauty behaviors. Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of services professionals for the district, while teaching Experience Managers and General Managers how to network and recruit. Evaluate technical and behavioral interviews for stylists, skin care professionals, and arch experts in the district. Serve as a support partner to the Experience Managers (EM), Field Business Leader (FBL) and District Manager (DM). Lead change and innovation by helping the team through the change-curve. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Demonstrate an aptitude to learn and teach best practices that promote sales growth, service techniques and product knowledge. Partner with the DM and FBL in assessing talent as it relates to top-line service sales growth/results. Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; always ensure compliance with state board guidelines. Lead the execution of technical and business training strategies, including networking and recruiting strategies within the district. Host/attend all required conference calls and prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings. Manage the district training calendar, all class preparations and communications. Facilitate the services portion of EM onboarding in partnership with the FBL. Support new SDE onboarding. Lead, contribute, and participate in Ulta Academy trainings. Attend corporate directed events and meetings. Attend brand partner trainings. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education Cosmetology or barber license required Redken Haircolor Certification is preferred (must be completed within six months of hire) Experience 2+ years of training experience, to include a superior knowledge of all back-bar products, services and retail recommendations 2+ years of coaching/leadership experience Understanding of, and proficiency with, the salon business, color, design and texture Skills Proficient with technology (e.g. Microsoft Office programs, Point of Sale system and Apple devices) Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks Strong critical reasoning skills to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable Ability to build strong partnerships with various associate levels and work independently and as part of a team Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to simplify information into clear, concise steps using various vehicles of communication SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Work a flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays Ability to travel up to 75% of the time including overnight stays WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent mobility during shift Frequent standing, walking, and bending during shift Continuous pulling, pushing, and twisting during shift Continuous lifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 25 lbs. during shift Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift On a frequent basis, requires the ability to work with/around chemicals Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies If an associate has a disability that prevents them from performing an essential function of the job, the Company will engage in the interactive process with the associate to determine whether there is a reasonable accommodation that will enable the associate to perform the essential functions of the job. The pay range for this position is $50,100.00 - $56,500.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn services pay pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan and additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
