GENERAL PURPOSE

Apply finish to manufactured product in a way that meets or exceed job related expectations for safety, quality, reliability, and environmental management. Problem solves with the assistance of other team members and seeks continuous improvement. Performs and completes all activities with a high regard for the safety of others and oneself. May learn additional functions by cross-training in other departments as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate the daily workflow following defined finishing processes.
Inspect material agitators and drums to ensure quality output before spraying begins.
Set up, clean, and replace booth filters, band support rollers, part carriers, and sawhorses according to guidelines.
Apply sealers, topcoats, and spray finishes to products.
Verify stain numbers, apply proper stains, and match stain shades on components to sample boards to ensure uniformity.
Clean and maintain spray guns, including semi-daily cleaning of needles and tips, repairing as needed, and replacing polyurethane, thinner, or catalyst as required.
Determine and apply the correct polyurethane application rate to avoid runs and meet thickness requirements (e.g., two coats of 3mm thick topcoat).
Apply stains, toners, dyes, and paint using spray guns, ensuring proper techniques for each material.
Follow recycling and disposal procedures as outlined by company guidelines.
Adhere to standard quality guidelines and maintain accurate documentation of quality records.
Inspect personal work for flaws, perform repairs, and ensure compliance with finishing standards.
Learn and consistently apply the proper finishing methods for each component.
Read and interpret drawings and routing instructions related to product manufacturing and required coatings.
Approve stains on products and perform sanding and tack-down after the first polyurethane application.
Shade products to specifications using spray guns.
Incorporate lean manufacturing principles into daily activities.
Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency

5-7 years of experience of relevant work experience.

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in shading, sealing, and applying topcoats and waterline processes.
Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Experience in coaching and developing new team members.
Availability to work overtime as needed to meet production demands.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Safety-conscious mindset with the ability to follow regulated processes.
Ability to read and interpret shop orders, safety data sheets, and component specifications.
Skill in operating tools such as spray guns and air palm sanders.
Problem-solving ability for minor issues in the finishing process.
Ability to seal, topcoat, spray, and shade products to meet quality standards.
