The University of Virginia Library invites applications for the Shannon Library Coordinator and Weekend Manager to support the Information Services and Spaces team. The Information Services and Spaces team provides our patrons with access to collections, resources, and spaces as well as high-quality service to support them.
Working in the Information Services and Spaces (ISS) team, this detail-oriented position provides direct support and service to library patrons. This position reports to the Shannon Library Public Services Manager. This position assists in overseeing and supervising student workers at both Shannon Library Service & Information Desks in support of patron services in coordination with the Shannon Library Public Services Manager. This position will work on special projects as assigned by the Shannon Library Public Services Manager. The position works a schedule of Saturday-Wednesday during the hours of 11:00AM-7:00PM Sunday-Wednesday and 10:00AM-6:00PM on Saturdays.
What you will do:
Student and Service Desk Assistance
Troubleshoots basic problems with desktop computing, printing/copying service, classroom audio/video, and reports unresolved issues to appropriate staff. Initiates help requests within and outside the library. Monitors student employee performance. Handles any tasks that require staff-level authority. Works with Shannon Library Public Services Manager to align on expectations for student employees.Circulation, Reference, and Customer Service
Circulates books, videos, and equipment to patrons. Grants exceptions to circulation policy when appropriate. Answers questions related circulation problems and patron accounts in addition to other circulation duties as assigned. Conducts catalog searches to identify a variety of texts, access library resources, and locate specific materials for library patrons.Provides customer service to library patrons with identifying and using appropriate library resources and online data collections.ISS Teamwork and Special Duties
Maintains the online departmental repository of information and documentation (currently Confluence) pertaining to staff, processes, procedures, and guidelines.Oversees Shannon Library’s Graduate Student Lounge. Collaborates with graduate student groups on-grounds to ensure the space meets students’ needs.Special duties as assigned.About the University of Virginia Library: The University of Virginia Library is here to ensure that the University community has the information it needs for teaching, research, and personal enjoyment and enrichment. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in a library setting OR any combination of relevant education, training, or experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
Experience working with the public or in a customer service position.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear manner.
Preferred Qualifications
A working understanding of library classification systems, like the Library of Congress Classification System.
Experience using library catalogs and databases.
Experience using integrated library systems and other library technology.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience working with student workers.

Anticipated hiring range: $18.00 - $21.00 / hour. Differential pay is received for work occurring during the evenings and on the weekend.
