Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Sheet Metal Design Engineer  located in Milpitas, CA.  

Reporting to the Director, Global Program Management the Sheet Metal Design Engineer is responsible for providing service and support at customer sites located throughout their assigned territory.

What a typical day looks like:

Impacts the medium-term (semi-annual/annual) direction and financial or operational success of the function. Approves and/or creates functional processes or technologies.

Executes and provides input to functional strategic plans and objectives for site. Assists in developing plans for structuring and implementing major initiatives.

Exercises independent judgment using ambiguously defined procedures and policies; may propose/provide input to defining methods, standards, policies and procedures. Makes decisions for sections/sub-functions. Decisions may affect multiple sections/sub-functions.

Demonstrates skills in teaching/leading and/or mentoring; may lead a team. Models appropriate behavior in support of Flex’ values.

Review Print and 3D models, review for DFM, manufacturability, and review tolerance issues. Support customer engineering/Design as well as Flex mechanical factories. Help site engineers be producing manufacturing prints with critical dimensions.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

Typically requires a Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent experience and training.

Typically requires 8 years of experience in engineering in the high technology electronics industry or related area.

Proficient in 3D mechanical CAD design, tolerance analysis, and understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, materials, and relevant standards, along with office skills in data entry and software applications.

Possesses operational and technical skills aligned with Flex’s functional standards, with a foundational knowledge of computerized electronic test equipment and programming.

Exhibits advanced functional and technical skills, including troubleshooting and diagnostics, with the ability to train others and a comprehensive understanding of Flex’s business processes.

Demonstrates expert knowledge in operations and customer relationship management, with a deep understanding of multiple functional technologies and their interdependencies across sites.
