Sheet Metal Mechanic
**Job Title: Sheet Metal Installer- Newport News, VA** **Job Description** We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanic with extensive experience in commercial and naval sheet metal work. The ideal candidate will have significant expertise in the installation of foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and sheet metal fabrication shop work. **Responsibilities** + Interpret and comprehend complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines. + Understand fractional and decimal dimensions using a ruler. + Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly. + Assemble piece parts in accordance with specifications to ensure high-quality results. + Work effectively in a physically demanding environment. + Adhere to OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry. + Utilize small hand tools (electric drills, grinders, rivet guns) and shop equipment (drill press, press brake, etc.) efficiently. **Essential Skills** + Four years of commercial/naval sheet metal experience as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker. + Proficiency in interpreting ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches. + Ability to understand fractional and decimal dimensions. + Skill in laying off piece parts for fabrication and assembly. + Experience in assembling piece parts according to specifications. + Familiarity with OSHA regulations for the shipbuilding industry. + Experience using small hand tools and shop equipment. **Work Environment** The work will be performed in a shipyard, the largest shipbuilding company in the world, located in Southeast Virginia. The facility stretches over 5 miles and experiences hot, muggy summers and cool winters. Work will be conducted on Navy vessels or in a shop environment. Employees must be able to work any shift: 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30-11pm), or 3rd shift (11pm-7am). **About Aerotek:** We know that finding work is hard, and finding meaningful work is harder.
