**Job Title: Metal Mechanic**
**Job Description**
We are seeking a skilled Metal Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the installation and assembly of bulkheads, ceiling panels, doors, windows, rails, and other internal components of Navy ships. This role requires a strong ability to read blueprints and work with Navy standards. You will assist in the installation of insulation for compartment floors, ceilings, and walls, and work with large sheet metal pieces and Tac welding before final welding. The candidate must be detail-oriented and have a solid understanding of ship repair work.
**Responsibilities**
+ Install bulkheads, ceiling panels, doors, windows, rails, and other related construction activities.
+ Assist in the installation of insulation for compartment floors, ceilings, and interior/exterior walls.
+ Work with Tac welding and large sheet-metal pieces to prepare for final welding.
+ Read and interpret blueprints to ensure compliance with Navy standards.
+ Fabricate, assemble, modify, install, and repair various sections into sheet metal products such as shipboard ventilation systems, metal partitions, metal furniture and doors, galley equipment, and stowage bins.
+ Set up and operate machine tools such as press brakes, shears, punches, rollers, drill presses, band saws, and plasma machines.
+ Utilize hand tools such as grinders, drills, rivet guns, saws, calipers, and combination squares.
+ Verify conformance of fabricated items to blueprint specifications.
**Essential Skills**
+ Minimum 3+ years of marine experience.
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Ability to read and understand blueprints.
+ Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication and installation.
+ Knowledge of physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal.
+ Experience with shipboard ventilation systems and other ship repair components.
+ Familiarity with tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade.
+ Knowledge of shop mathematics and principles.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Must be able to obtain DBIDS.
+ Authorized to work in the U.S.
+ Previous experience working aboard a CVN Class Navy ship preferred.
+ Experience in shipyard/ship repair environment.
+ Ability to operate a variety of metalworking machines and precision instruments.
**Work Environment**
Work will be performed aboard various shipyard facilities in San Diego, CA, including Nassco, BAE, CMSD, North Island, and the Naval Base on 32nd street. The role involves working with heavy machinery and precision instruments, adhering to safety standards at all times
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
