Shift Manager II - Maintenance
13088BRJob Description:United States Steel is looking for a Manager of Maintenance to apply engineering principles, troubleshooting, and problem-solving techniques. This role involves evaluating and resolving operational conditions to improve reliability. The Maintenance Manager will supervise, direct, and coordinate efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment, aiming to maximize operating efficiencies and improve reliability. The ideal candidate will engage teams effectively and promote respect, communication, and collaboration through two-way communication, encouraging new ideas and different perspectives to drive individual, team, and company success. Responsibilities: Safety and Housekeeping: + Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment, including proper housekeeping. + Supervision and Coordination: + Directly supervise union employees and work closely with vendors and contractors. + Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assign duties accordingly. + Coordinate, organize, and direct activities of maintenance crews. Technical Support: + Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment. + Maintain proper inventories of required spares to ensure efficient operations. + Repairs and Maintenance: + Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance with a team of mechanical/electrical maintenance staff. + Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules to follow, improve, and develop preventive and routine maintenance programs. Cost Management: + Devise and implement cost-saving strategies. + Problem Resolution: + Develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate maintenance problems and improve product quality. Administrative Duties: + Perform administrative activities such as scheduling crews, completing reports, conducting safety conversations, and complying with other reporting as necessary. Requirements: + High school diploma or GED. + Minimum of 5 years of work experience supervising crews in a manufacturing or industrial environment. + Ability to work rotating shifts, including extended workdays, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Skills: + Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Electrical Maintenance, or a similar degree program, or equivalent years of demonstrated knowledge in a large industrial/maintenance environment. + Experience supervising unionized employees or similar military leadership experience. + Proficient in both English and Spanish is preferred Auto req ID:13088BRCompany:U.
