About the Role
Summary - The shift supervisor is responsible for assuring staff’s compliance with daily routines and structure of the facility during the shift of duty and for maintaining agency standards of quality of care and service provision for the children/youth residing in the facility. The Shift Supervisor will supervise all child care workers, their deployment and activities, and uphold the daily programming, routines, discipline, program structure, and tone.
Essential Duties
Conduct bi-weekly supervision of child care staff. Ensure the maintenance of order, safety, and security standards within the facility by systematically monitoring activities throughout the premises which is guided by the task sheet. Conduct hourly rounds to oversee facility and staff activities, ensuring that designated tasks are completed and providing support to staff as necessary. Facilitate the resolution of conflicts, whether among staff members or residents. Thoroughly complete all required documentation in a timely fashion, including incident reports (ACS & PEMS), Intakes, Discharges, shift summaries, census, fire drill logs, task sheets, movement forms, and other required documentation. Maintain and reviews logbooks, therapeutic hold logs, room check logs, and other relevant documentation to ensure the accuracy of those who completed it. Ensure that Missing Person Reports are done for all youth 13 and under within designated time frame. Communicate all incidents involving residents before the end of the shift to parents and caregivers. Provides documentation of supervision to the house manager and maintain a supervisory log of all staff supervised. Uphold daily living routines, schedules, and procedures by supporting child care staff. Facilitate shift meetings and at times staff meetings. Conduct fire drills and complete all relevant documentation fully. Ensure that incident reports and logbooks are congruent before the shift ends. Ensure high standards of understanding and enforcement of policy and procedure and make sure that they are adhered to. Inspect the facility to ensure clean and sanitary conditions along with the disposal of expired food and notify appropriate departments when necessary to address facility concerns. Participate and ensure the engagement of child care staff in the planning and execution of recreational activities along with specialist, and personal enrichment activities. Participate in ongoing staff, managers, and treatment team meetings, and all required training. Communicate frequently with the House Manager, Program Director, Caseworker, and support staff regarding pertinent information about residents. Coordinate and manage transportation for school, medical, and all other appointments. Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) to de-escalate incidents and protect the physical safety of children and staff along with providing TCI overview with staff. Conduct and complete annual performance assessments. Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
High School Diploma (Associated Degree preferred). Prior supervisory experience required Valid NYS Driver’s License and clean driving record. Ability to drive a 12-passenger van. 2 years of related experience – preferred. Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based youth development, and trauma-informed perspective. Ability to travel to all five boroughs. Must be able to pass the required TCI training and pass certification on an annual basis. Obtain and maintain FDNY F07 S95 certification
