Shipboard Technician reports to the Shipboard Supervisor within Transcat’s Angel’s Instrumentation division and partners with a team of technicians aboard US Naval ships to calibrate and replace shipboard installed gauges, thermometers, and meters. This job requires greater than 50% travel to service applicable customers
ResponsibilitiesMajor Areas of Responsibility
Perform routine maintenance and calibration for pressure gauges, RPM indicators, temperature measurement devices and other related equipment found on board US Navy ships. Determine the correct measurement tools and equipment needed to perform applicable maintenance and calibrations. Substitute for appropriate standards when necessary.Conduct test and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality and/or performance compliance.Apply measurement science principles and mathematical methods to accurately record and report all findings.Interpret measurement findings and determine and implement best course of corrective action (i.e., adjust versus replace).Identify equipment failures and remove/replace as needed.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of measurement science principles and be able to independently calibrate equipment and remove/install instrumentsMust be able to calculate specifications/tolerances.Must be able to properly analyze results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations. Must be able and willing to travel worldwide (more than 50% required), including weekends and periods of 2-3 weeks consecutive travelMust have a US Passport or ability to obtain oneMust be able to access naval bases and shipyardsMust be a US citizenMust pass a background checkMust have a valid driver's license and acceptable driver history Must be able to lift 50 lbs.Must be able to work in small or confined spaces QualificationsEducation and Experience:
2-Year degree from a technical school or equivalent experience within military and/or calibration industryPhysical Demands
