Seeking an experienced ship fitter to join our team. The ship fitter will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of shipbuilding principles, be proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings, and possess excellent welding and metalworking skills.
Job Description:
•\tReview, despiser, understand, and execute information from work packages, fabrication drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and customer requirements.
•\tCuts, shears, shapes, preps material using various shop equipment for assembly of fabrications.
•\tPreforms weld preps based on weld symbols and specifications on processed material
•\tBuilds fixtures as needed to hold weldments to tolerance when welding
•\tSet up and operate machinery to support the fabrication shops such as: hand and power tools, magnetic drills, drill press, grinders, cutting torches, cutting tractors, breaks, shears, etc.
•\tLay, position, and align processed material tool assist welders in securing parts & assembly according to specifications utilizing various measuring devices, straightedges, combination squares, levels, building aids, etc.
•\tWork within assigned group to move and position workpieces using overhead cranes
•\tFills out and maintains work packages as required
•\tHas own personal basic fitting and measuring tools
•\tInspects own work to assure it meets product specifications, issued drawings, shop package completion, and is compliant before presented to QA
•\tInspect equipment to maintain functionality; report any equipment malfunctions
•\tWork with others to assist in the fabrication of multi-component fabrications as well as on their own
•\tDispatched to other buildings within the Navy yard and possible other job sites at times when requested
Work Environment
Large, loud manufacturing environment. Currently working four 10s and have 8 hour mandatory OT on Friday until they catch up. 1st and 2nd shift openings. 10% differential for working 2nd shift.
6am start for 1st
4pm start for 2nd
The fit test evaluation consists of: cutting a 13” circle out of an 18 x 18 x 3/8” plate, beveling the circle at 22 ½ degrees, fit the circle back into the plate flush with ¼” root opening and strong back it to the back side so that it is ready for weld.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o\tHigh school diploma or equivalent.
o\tDo you possess +5 years of proven experience as a ship fitter or similar metal working role (iron working, structural steel, etc.), within in a maritime or shipbuilding environment?
o\tProficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
o\tStrong welding and metalworking skills, including experience with various welding processes (e.g., arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding).
o\tFamiliarity with shipbuilding materials, tools, and equipment.
o\tKnowledge of shipbuilding principles and practices.
o\tAttention to detail and precision in workmanship.
o\tAbility to work independently and as part of a team.
o\tGood communication and interpersonal skills.
o\tAbility to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $34.00
