SHIPPING SUPERVISOR

Primary working 1st shift, covering vacations for 2nd/3rd shift.

DESCRIPTION

Responsible for supervising processes and procedures in the receiving and shipping department.  Ensures that goods are verified against records of shipment.  Oversees the inspection of goods received.  Supervises the maintenance of records of damaged or defective items and discrepancies in quantities and weights.  Records time, date, quantity, source, and destination of materials received or shipped.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all team members in the receiving and inventory area, including freezer leadmanVerify all PALL/INTR/FLOOR locations are cleaned upEnsure cycle counts are being completedInvestigate inventory discrepancies and hold team members accountableReporting such as Old Age report, trailer inventory within Shop Floor, freezer inventory transfersEnsure BLAST locations get rotated properly and ensure the rework processSupervises employees engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and in preparing items for shipment.  Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.  Supervises employees who count and identify items in receiving and shipping department.Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures.Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks.Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.  Seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.Compiles records of unfilled orders.Prepares bills of lading.Provides supervision, training, scheduling, and guidance to shipping personnel.

Must have excellent communication skillsMust possess good interpersonal skills so as to be able to get along with fellow members of staffMust possess good leadership and supervisory abilitiesMust be willing and able to work as part of a teamPossess good organizational and coordinating abilitiesMust be able to multi-task and place priorities in an orderly mannerMust possess good negotiation skills. This is necessary when it comes to dealing with truck companies and vendorsMust be an individual who pays keen attention to even the smallest of detailsMust have good judgment and decision-making abilitiesMust possess time management skillsPossess good conflict resolution skillsA concrete and verifiable knowledge of shipping and/or logistics proceduresEducational background is considered an asset.Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of DIRECTLY RELATED experience. Consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience.Must be able to work in very cold, damp, loud environments with slick floorsMust be able to work flexible hours including some overtime and weekends
