Shipping Supervisor

SUMMARY:

This individual will report to the General Manager and will manage all aspects of logistics in shipping and receiving of products and materials for the site.   The Shipping Supervisor will manage hourly shipping department personnel in meeting daily and weekly shipping deadlines to customers. This individual will also be responsible for carrier relationships and prioritization of shipments. Assigned tasks may change over time based on the needs of the business.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Assist in resolving day to day operational issues for shipping and receiving related issues

·        Communicate directly with carriers, brokers, and internal and external customers

·        Supervise hourly employees assigned to shipping and receiving functions

·        Manage inventory levels of shipping related materials – pallets, containers, racks, protective wrapping, etc.

·        Ensure customer shipment deadlines are met and resources are prioritized appropriately

·        Complete system transactions related to shipping and receiving of materials and goods

·        Maintain organization of completed orders and shipping staging areas

·        Organize and maintain long term finished goods storage racks

·        Continually look for opportunities and implement change to improve the shipping/receiving operations of the site

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL SKILLS

·        HS Diploma or GED

·        Previous experience with Oracle based computer software

·        Proficient with MS Office suite

·        Experience in manufacturing environment and/or logistics

·        Strong Customer Service Skills

·        Strong organizational skills

·        Ability to multitask and prioritize needs of the site and department

·        Strong communication skills

·        Preferred experience in managing hourly employees

·        Rail industry experience a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.  While performing the duties of this job travel will not be required under normal circumstances.

SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING:

Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the Company and various regulatory agencies.  Sees that the standards are not violated.  Maintains a clean and orderly workplace.
