The Role:  Shipping Supervisor 


 

MPP Sycamore, a division of Orora is currently seeking a Shipping supervisor to join our team. This position is a key leadership role at the Manufacturing Site. Responsible for achieving the short term and long-term revenue. This person will ensure best practices are deployed throughout the site. This role oversees daily responsibilities for the Shipping and Receiving functions of the plant. To ensure that Customer deliveries are meet on time to minimize production WIP at all times maximum capacity of Orora transportation fleet and vendors while working with financial controls such as labor, waste, safety, EHS and overall compliance. Also ensures all required quality and regulatory standards are met. Develops processes for maximizing productivity, and stewardship. Provides oversight to several plant level functions such as accounting, maintenance, warehouse/distribution, scheduling (of deliveries and receiving), and administration procedures and process.  

 

Partners with the Site management to create functional strategies/objectives, continuous improvement in meeting forecasts / budgets/policies/ procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Interact with Site Accountant, Orora AP Offsite dept, to ensure all Monthly financial reporting is accurately complete.

 

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily shipping operations to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient shipment of goods. This role involves supervising a team, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of operational efficiency.

 

This position will report to the: Senior Site Manager FLSA Status: Exempt

 

 

What You’ll be Responsible For in this Role

 

 

Operations Management:

Oversee all shipping activities, including order preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispatching. Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely deliveries. Monitor and optimize shipping processes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. Operates as the production liaison between product development and sales In partnership with other departments, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement (Kaizen) and prioritizes these opportunities for consideration and implementation. Drives a cross functional, uniting, conducive culture of teamwork at the site. 

 

Team Supervision:

Manage and lead a team of shipping staff, (Shipping Clerk, Receiving and loading Fork truck drivers) including scheduling, training, and performance evaluation. Daily Manage the company fleet of 2 trucks and  transport drivers and ensure they follow the instructions provided to meet daily deliveries Plan Scheduled Department PTO and vacations to ensure the Site Shipping, Receiving, deliveries to customers are meet on time (Daily goal 100% DIFOT) Foster a positive work environment and ensure clear communication among team members. Address team concerns and resolve conflicts to maintain productivity.

 

Inventory and Documentation:

Ensure accurate documentation of shipments, including invoices, bills of lading, and customs paperwork. Ensure ALL daily paperwork is scanned and filled as per the company procedures and process on a daily basis to allow for invoicing of delivered goods to be processes by AP dept Maintain accurate records of inventory, shipping schedules, and delivery confirmations. Conduct regular audits of shipping logs and inventory to ensure compliance.

 

End of Month

Ensure all WIP, inventory, invoicing, documentation has been scanned, ALL numbers are accurately reported to meet End of Month Financial reporting deadlines Work closely with Site manager and Accountant to ensure smooth EOM final reporting and closing

 

Quality and Safety:

Ensure all outgoing shipments meet company quality standards and customer requirements. Monitor adherence to safety regulations and implement corrective measures when needed. Conduct regular inspections of equipment and shipping areas to ensure cleanliness and functionality.

 

Problem Resolution:

Address shipping delays, damages, or discrepancies promptly and professionally. Collaborate with other departments, such as customer service and sales, to resolve shipping-related issues.

 

Reporting and Analysis:

Analyze shipping data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Prepare and present regular reports on shipping performance, costs, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

 

What We’re Looking For  

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred. Experience: 5-10 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations; prior supervisory experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in shipping software and inventory management systems. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Certifications: Forklift certification and knowledge of hazardous materials handling (if applicable) are a plus. Supervise and delegate tasks to shipping team members. Schedule and track shipments to ensure timely delivery. Conduct routine checks to ensure all items are packaged securely and accurately. Collaborate with procurement, production, and customer service teams to align shipping with operational goals. Train team members on safety protocols, company policies, and efficient shipping practices. Investigate and resolve shipping errors or delays. Evaluate and recommend improvements in shipping tools and processes. This role is integral to ensuring smooth logistics operations and customer satisfaction while maintaining cost-effectiveness and operational excellence.
