Shipyard Laborer
**Job Title: Shipyard Laborer** **Job Description** Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems. Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments meet technical standards and specifications and engineering directives. Operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, measuring, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Cleans and prepares sites, cleans up rubble and debris, and removes materials for work. Assists other trade workers as needed. Laborers load and unload equipment, and carry materials to skilled workers. Removes paint and scale from ships’ metal surfaces, using hand or powered wire brushes. Conveys materials and tools to the work site. Loads vehicles, using a hand truck or dolly. Washes trucks and other vehicles. Cleans ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas, using a broom and water hose. Opens shipping crates, using a hammer and pinch bar. **Responsibilities** + Assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems. + Ensure techniques, materials, and accomplishments meet technical standards and specifications. + Operate hand and power tools such as air hammers and measuring instruments. + Clean and prepare sites, clean up rubble and debris, and remove materials for work. + Assist other trade workers as needed. + Load and unload equipment, and carry materials to skilled workers. + Remove paint and scale from ships’ metal surfaces using hand or powered wire brushes. + Convey materials and tools to the work site. + Load vehicles using a hand truck or dolly. + Wash trucks and other vehicles. + Clean ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas using a broom and water hose. + Open shipping crates using a hammer and pinch bar. **Essential Skills** + Must be able to obtain DBIDS. + Must have completed a high school diploma or GED. + Must be able to obtain OSHA/FW and RADCON training prior to starting. + Must have previous shipyard experience (at least 2-4 months). + Must be able to work Monday - Saturday (10 hour days, 60 hours a week). + Capable of performing general laborer duties. + Knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to fabricate and assemble various insulating systems of differing materials, including cutting, shaping, positioning, alignment, and mounting on piping systems and ventilation ducting. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
