Job Title: Shop Helper

Job Description

Assist with the repair and replacement of components and equipment in the Workshop. Utilize mechanical engineering theory, review schematics and operations books to ascertain procedures, objectives, and testing requirements for technical problems. Operate or assist in the operation of Workshop equipment to troubleshoot machine problems and evaluate the correctness and completeness of repairs. Set a positive example in punctuality and professional demeanor by respectful communication with all levels of staff, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and promoting safety regulations and all other company programs. ResponsibilitiesAssist in testing mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.Assist with the repair and replacement of damaged or worn parts.Assist with the operation and inspection of machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.Assist with the dismantling and reassembly of heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.Assist with cleaning, lubrication, and other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.Assist with yard operations, such as loading and unloading.Operate shop equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and man-lifts, once trained, licensed, and/or certified.Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.Repair and maintain parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.Promote a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self-follow established safety procedures.Follow directions for handling and disposing of hazardous wastes, such as toner, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner, and similar materials.Essential SkillsGeneral laborCleaningDegreasingMechanically inclinedLubricationMaintain shop and yard clean and organizedAssist shop techs with repairs, assembly, and testing of mechanical equipmentClean and degrease tools and partsPower tool operationForklift operationInventory managementAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED with 1 year of related experienceExperience with cranes and forkliftsWhy Work Here?

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Flemington, New Jersey.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00
