Welcome to the role of Shop Technician I.   In this position, you will provide general labor for a variety of projects including assembly, fabrication, and mechanical applications.  This position will be responsible for performing basic repairs, troubleshooting, and building new products according to drawings.

 

This individual should have a basic knowledge of mechanical applications and general construction trades and must become familiar with the products and services offered by Pillar Innovations. This position must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed and may require infrequent travel to customer sites and/or with overnight stays.  

What You'll Do

General Duties

Exercise safe work practicesPerform work to complete jobs in a variety of areasLearn to read and interpret drawings and specificationsMaintain a clean and organized shop areaAssist with maintaining inventory levelsLearn to set up rigging to hoist equipmentPrepare and layout tools and materials for jobs according to specificationsAssist with cutting and threading pipe as neededPrepare finished products for shipmentAssist with on-site installations as neededLearn to perform basic troubleshooting Load and unload trucks, tools, materials, etc. as neededLearn how to safely and effectively utilize a variety of hand and power toolsComplete training to become a Competent Operator for equipment such as skid steers, lift equipment, etc. as needed

Assembly

Learn to mount steel components, pumps, compressors, piping, etc.Learn to assemble pipe and tube structuresAssemble basic structures including metal, aluminum, plastic, etc.Learn to assemble more complex systems such as conveyors, compressors, pump stations, ovens, etc.Learn to properly adhere labels, stickers, etc. per construction drawingsOrganize and place items in products as needed

Fabrication

Learn to cut and prepare finished metalsAssist with basic welding and grindingLearn to identify, lay-out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specificationsAssist with ensuring fabrications or assemblies conform to quality standards and specified designModify existing structures for customized buildsLearn to bend pipe and tube as needed

Mechanical

Assist with organizing tools and materials for assembly and installationLearn to interpret mechanical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and productsAssist with assembling machinery using bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structuresAssist with the final assembly of systems such as air compressors, pumps, motors, instrumentation devices, etc.Learn to properly align equipment Assist with system startups and final commissioning as needed

Working Conditions

Stand for an extended period of timeWalk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / crawl / kneelThe employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds What You'll Bring Previous experience and/or education in general construction, mechanical and/or fabrication work preferredAbility to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goalsExperience with various measuring devices such as straightedge, combination square, gages, tape measures, etc.Ability to read and follow manuals and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedure)Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and mechanical drawingsAbility to use basic hand and power tools such as pliers, hacksaws, drills, grinders, test equipment, etc.Possess a solid work ethicAbility to effectively communicate with co-workers, customers, and vendorsPossess strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to maintain professionalism among co-workers and customers Must be dependable; trustworthy; and possess a positive and productive attitude Possess basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, emails, and PDF viewers)
