SIG Mechanical Design Engineer Intern

As a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern in the Development Engineering team at Micron Systems Integration Group (SIG), you will be responsible for crafting and developing mechanical fixtures, mechanisms, and finished equipment for semiconductor testing. Coordinate analytical studies to guide design decisions and lead all aspects of support staff in design, testing, prototyping, and distribution. This position will include new design/development activities, concurrent engineering, and sustaining engineering functions for legacy equipment. **Responsibilities and Tasks** + Mechanical design of automated/semi-automated equipment, tooling, fixturing, and support assemblies. The output being design documents to include requirement specifications, CAD models, fabrication prints, detailed assembly prints, end use documentation, and test/check-out specifications. + Perform mechanical design and analysis computations (stress, strain, deflection, safety factors). + Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), thermal design via calculation, and validation of thermal models using design of experiments. + Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to determine optimal air/fluid thermal designs. + Advanced development of mechanical design using novel thermal materials and thermal design approaches. + Work with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to ensure proper design for manufacturability, test, assembly, and quality control systems are established. + Perform risk assessments and Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for sub assembly/system designs. + Interact and maintain close communication with other engineering teams, including controls engineering, electrical engineering, and software engineering, to translate customer requirements into engineering design documents. + Ensure prototype/manufactured product performance and manage product verification/validation. + Interact with Micron suppliers to drive new designs or the customization of existing products to meet unique internal requirements. **Support Internal/External Customers** + Provide technical support (Example: failure analysis, questions, etc.) to any internal or external customer as part of the mechanical development. **Adhere to Safety procedures** + Follow established policies and procedures. + Recognize and resolve safety or environmental issues, including assistance to develop appropriate procedures and documentation. + Use available resources to complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner. **Education** + Bachelor’s degree **-** Mechanical Engineering Graduation date should not be prior to September 2025 **Experience** + CAD/FEA Software including SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks PDM, Solid Edge, Ansys, preferred As a world leader in the semiconductor industry, Micron is dedicated to your personal wellbeing and professional growth.
