Positions are available for Patient Care Assistant 1 (PCA) and Unit Coordinator (UC) in all specialty areas of Mass General Brigham for students of the Dotson Nursing Fellowship and the Simmons University Nursing program.
The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA) role supports the healthcare team under RN supervision. The Unit Coordinator play a critical role in patient care by serving as the central source of information by communicating with patients, families, and medical staff. Open to Dotson Nursing Fellowship and Simmons University Nursing students, the position offers per diem opportunity, with flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
What are we looking for in a PCA?
PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs.
Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, closely safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.

What are we looking for in a Unit Coordinator?
Acts as the central contact person for the nursing unit; performs transcription, clerical, and reception duties; and will become an expert user in Epic.
Work under the direction of the Nurse Manager or designee to coordinate the non-nursing/non-clinical activities essential to the effective functioning of the nursing unit. Requires a high degree of accuracy and good interpersonal skills.

Dotson Nursing Fellowship Students
Must be a current Nursing Student at Simmons University and member of the Dotson Bridge and Mentoring Program or ALANA.
CNA related experience or currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed one clinical rotation.
HS Diploma
Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak, and write accurately
Knowledge of simple arithmetic
Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self
