Simulation Educator

Job Summary: The Simulation Educator collaborates with faculty and staff across various programs to ensure that learners are developing the clinical skills needed for patient care. Leads experiential education by developing, implementing, and overseeing programs through both the Medical Simulation Center (MSC) and Clinical Skills Education Center (CSEC).   Performs necessary administrative duties needed for the Medical Simulation Center and Clinical Skills Education Center to run smoothly. Maintains and integrates knowledge of current clinical skills, communication theory, and adult learning theory into the activities of the MSC and the CSEC.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, Teaching/Education, Respiratory Care required.   Master's degree preferred.  Minimum two years of emergency room, operating room or acute healthcare experience required.  Minimum one year of prior teaching, management or supervisory experience required.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and understanding of experiential educational theory and simulation-based learning methodology.  Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and abbreviations.  Knowledge and skills to conduct physical examinations. Able to read, write legibly and speak English with professional quality; use computer, printer, electronic equipment, simulators and software programs necessary to the position; operate basic office equipment required for the job. Demonstrates flexibility and quickly pivot work efforts to address shifting priorities and achieve mission objectives.  Demonstrates confidentiality and exhibits strong conflict management and critical thinking skills.  Demonstrates cultural sensitivity to diverse populations; provide excellent customer service.   Planning and organizational skills including time management, critical thinking, setting priorities, decisive decision making and problem-solving;  Sight, touch, hearing and smell intact.  Able to identify color-coded electrical/mechanical components, distinguish colors; read computer screens and written documents.  Hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, identify and distinguish various sounds associated with mechanical equipment and stethoscope auscultation for appropriate patient examination; distinguish temperature variations through touch; vibration sensation intact; distinguish various odors characteristic of equipment malfunction.

Licensures and Certifications: Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Physician's Assistant or Physician’s Licensure required. Extensive simulation and/or clinical experience may be accepted in lieu of licensure, certification and/or registration. Valid driver’s license required.
