UTHealth Houston’s Cizik School of Nursing is hiring for a Simulation Nurse Educator to join their team of professionals. The Simulation Nurse Educator will be responsible for ensuring nursing aspects of skills and simulation labs set up accurately by sim techs, building sim scenarios, EHR charts, educational materials for skills and sim labs, assist with clean up and breakdown of skills and sim labs, and more.

Position Summary:

Responsible for facilitating the operations of the Simulation & Clinical Performance Laboratory (SCPL). Assists and participates in the planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based learning to support mission-driven goals, strategies, and initiatives.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Essential Functions

Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Simulation and nursing school faculty to develop and facilitate all simulation activities of the SCPL in the graduate and undergraduate degree programs. Coordinates the set-up and breakdown of simulation activities according to simulation modality. Ensures adherence of simulation activities to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes, safety measures, and the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practices (HSSOBP). Creates and maintains a weekly schedule that ensures adequate coverage for all simulation activities throughout the academic year in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Simulation. Provides technical support for simulators, online learning and audio-visual as needed. Assists in the organization and stocking of inventory needs for the simulation laboratory. Provides recommendations for purchases with anticipation of future changes/needs of the faculty, students, and university keeping abreast of new methodologies of learning in simulation. Facilitates simulation educational activities when necessary. Provides training for all users of the SCPL including faculty, students, internal and external learners. Provides orientation to new simulation lab staff and direct their training in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Simulation. Assists in collecting and analyzing the simulation program data on faculty/learner evaluation and satisfaction. Attends professional development activities and conferences in simulation and education. Be an active member of the Simulation Committee and participate in its efforts for accreditation. Participates in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the university. Networks with other lab/simulation coordinators or educators at local/state/national/international level to develop and utilize best practices. Communicates effectively with all educators, administrative staff and technical support staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Knowledge in the operation of simulation equipment, simulators, and task trainers Current State of Texas Nursing Licensure required Current certification in BLS required Current Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification, or commitment to obtain certification within 2 years of hire date preferred Commitment to obtain Instructor Certification in BLS within 1 year of hire date preferred

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited nursing school required Master's Degree in Nursing preferred

Minimum Experience:

5 years experience as full-time clinical registered nurse, with 1 of those 5 years in a similar educational role required 1 year experience in the operation of simulation equipment, simulators, and task trainers preferred 1 year experience as healthcare simulation educator or simulation technician preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
