Responsibilities The incumbent's responsibility, first and foremost, is to lead by example, to shape and sustain a working environment most conducive to the successful performance of those entrusted to his/her leadership and direction; creating a positive atmosphere and culture within the Semper Fit Division and its constituent branches that reflects the pride, professionalism, sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, collaborative engagement, well-being, and wholehearted customer focus of its employees is the incumbent's essential purpose and focus of main effort. Responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating a base-wide Single Marine Program (SMP), to include, but not limited to, a comprehensive base-wide program of social, cultural, educational, athletic, and recreational activities targeting Marines and Sailors ages 18 to 25 years, special events and joint community programs. Acts as coordinator/advisor to the Single Marine Program committee and liaison between the Base Sergeants Major and the program. Responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with adjacent building tenants, and leveraging items of mutual interest/benefit. Responsible for ensuring efficient transition and expansion of programs and facilities. Maintains appropriate supervision and security relative to expansion. Serves as an inter- and intra-divisional bridge for MCCS in an effort to create programs of excellence for the Single Marines. Forms, coordinates, and maintains a network or 'Board' of Marines to address Quality of Life (QOL) issues, develop and deliver programs and maintain communication with Marines and Sailors at each Recreation Center to address issues in each geographical area. Prepares and is responsible for annual operating budgets (APF and NAF) for inclusion in overall MCCS budget. Directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors, supervises employees. Counsels and trains employees, schedules and directs work, appraises work performance. Approves or disapproves leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, disciplinary actions, and signs timesheets. Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action. Effectively supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity and Sexual Harassment policies, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, and other environmental issues and programs. Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. Demonstrates and promotes World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and associates, and communicates positively in a courteous and considerate manner. Acknowledges customers and associates; smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Helps shape customer and associates expectations. Inspires and sustains the trust and confidence of customers, associates, colleagues, senior management, and subordinates. Checks for satisfaction with the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact, for help when problems arise. Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program. May conduct safety meetings. Advise employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials, and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office. Ensures that safety training is provided to employees. Complies with OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions, and follows through with appropriate action. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with 'Return to Work' program initiatives, and following up on employee well-being. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20lbs may be required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment See Duties and Qualifications EVALUATIONS: Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have four years of higher level service management which demonstrates knowledge of the goals, philosophy, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing, planning, administering, and conducting leisure time activities. Ability to coordinate a large volunteer program with command, community, and civic leaders. Ability to supervise large groups of people and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Bachelor¿s degree in recreation or related field highly desirable. Travel occasionally required, as well as, working frequent nights and weekends.
