What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: The primary objective of the Instrument/Electrical (I/E) Functional Safety Engineer is to drive project implementation focused on Safety Instrumented System (SIS) lifecycle management for our manufacturing site. In this role you will develop and steward our project systems/processes, which will help improve the site’s overall instrumentation and electrical assets. This role is located in Port Neches, TX.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Provide design engineering support for projects.
• Responsible for developing scope of work details for instrument and electrical discipline.
• Serves as a Project Team Leader if required and serve as responsible person for the project success (Cost, Timing and Quality).
• Participates in the Process Safety Engineering Team to effectively implement and manage the Facility’s Safety Instrumented System (SIS) safety life cycle phases. Proficiency in SIF Design and SIL implementation as well as working knowledge and proficient of IEC 61511.
• Provides Instrument/Electrical expertise to the plant as required.
• Provides start-up assistance for new installations as required.
• Participates in Process Safety Management studies such as Design Hazard Reviews, Process Hazard Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis and incident investigations. Addresses assigned action items resulting from these studies.
• Responsible for performing equipment design calculations and providing equipment specifications for the purchase of new instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Responsible for determining drafting resource requirements and requesting resources when required.
• Responsible for developing spare parts list for new instrumentation and electrical equipment.
• Responsible for conducting project meetings when required.
• Accountable for project implementation, including field inspection, problem solving, and coordination.
• Proficiency utilizing the SIL calculation tools, SLM, exSILentia software. Work knowledge of aeShield and Isograph FaultTree+ analysis
• Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet site objectives.
• Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
• Assists other employees in accomplishments of company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
• Participates in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company-required training programs.

Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer and/or Control Systems from an accredited university is required. Certifications: CSFE/CFSP professional certification is preferred.
Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant experience in I/E and SIS Engineer is required. 2+ years of Project Engineering experience is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.
Ability to determine motor control center loading.
Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.
Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
(Instrumentation) Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
(Instrumentation) Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.
(Instrumentation) Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).
Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations.
Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.
Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.
Ability to determine construction material quantities.
Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good presentation and Virtual team skills.
