The Site Automation, and Digital Lead oversees all, automation systems, and digital transformation initiatives at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site. This role ensures the effective use of technology to support fill and finish operations, while maintaining regulatory compliance and cybersecurity. Key responsibilities include managing IT infrastructure, leading digital projects, and ensuring data integrity. The role also involves mentoring the team and managing vendor relationships. This position is crucial for optimizing operational efficiency and innovation at the site.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

IT Infrastructure and Automation Systems Management:

Oversee the maintenance and optimization of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and hardware together with central IT operations teams.Manage the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation systems, including process control, building management, and utility management systems.Ensure the integration of IT and automation systems with manufacturing operations to optimize efficiency and productivity.

Digital Transformation:

Lead digital initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, including the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies.Implement data analytics and digital tools to improve decision-making and operational performance.

Operational Technology (OT) Security:

Work with PDX Global OT Lead and implement OT cybersecurity program to protect critical manufacturing systems from cyber threats.Ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations and best practices, including regular risk assessments, audits and vulnerability management.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all IT, automation, and digital systems comply with pharmaceutical industry regulations, including GxP (Good Practice) guidelines.Maintain documentation and support audits and inspections related to IT, automation, and digital systems.Ensure 100% adherence to safety and quality regulations across all sites.

Project Management:

Lead automation, and digital projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement innovative solutions.

Support and Maintenance:

Provide technical support for automation, and digital systems, addressing issues promptly to minimize downtime.Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Data Management:

Oversee data integrity and security, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.Implement and manage data backup and disaster recovery plans for IT and OT systems.

Team Leadership and People Management:

Lead and mentor the automation, and digital team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.Develop and manage the budget for automation, and digital initiatives, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.Manage direct reports, providing guidance, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.May directly oversee 5–6 team members, ensuring performance aligns with roadmap objectives.Recruit and onboard talent: Hire and onboard talent, ensuring skills align with roadmap needs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.10+ years of experience in automation, digital transformation, or a related field, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.Strong knowledge of OT cybersecurity and regulatory requirements in pharmaceutical manufacturing.Excellent project management and leadership skills.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Skills:

Proficiency in IT infrastructure management, automation systems, and digital technologies.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, particularly fill and finish operations.

Digitalization and Roadmap Development

Contribute to the digitalization roadmap: implement digital initiatives to achieve predictive plant digital maturity within the next three years Develop and execute a roadmap for cycle time reduction and yield improvements: Create a detailed 2–3-year plan targeting an X% improvement in operational efficiencies or cost metrics with quarterly progress reviews and reporting.

Capacity and Stakeholder Engagement

Enable additional manufacturing capacity: Launch programs that create a measurable increase in site capacity, obtaining stakeholder approval before execution. Coordinate with CAPEX projects: Participate in all relevant CAPEX project reviews to recommend designs, ensuring alignment with long-term efficiency goals.

Continuous Improvement and On-Site Engagement

Kaizen participation: Host or actively participate in a minimum of four Kaizen events per year to drive improvements. Problem-solving and Genba visits: participate in problem-solving sessions, documenting outcomes and improvement initiatives.

Desired Qualifications:

Certifications:LEAN Green or Black Belt certification required; Six Sigma certifications are an asset.Project Management certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2) are a plus.Cybersecurity certifications are a plusProblem Solving and Leadership:Proven track record in conducting problem-solving sessions, Kaizens, and driving successful follow-ups.Demonstrated experience in change management and delivering measurable capacity improvements in manufacturing.Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor team members to build organizational capabilities.Collaboration and Communication:Fluency in both written and spoken local language and English.Experience working in a global matrixed environmentInnovation and Learning:Strong technical curiosity and a demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies.Experience contributing to digital transformation initiatives, including predictive analytics and manufacturing digitization.
