Site Manager - Laboratory Services
Overview Fairview Health Services is looking for a Laboratory Services Site Manager in the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This is a fulltime, day shift opening. In partnership with the Laboratory Director and other stakeholders, provide leadership and management for the day-to-day operations in the Core Laboratory at UMMC-East, driving patient care excellence while ensuring achievement of organizational goals. Manage Laboratory Operations: Manages the day-to-day operations of the laboratory to ensure achievement of organizational vision, mission, and goals. Develops, implements, and communicates key metrics and improvement activities to monitor the performance of laboratory operations. Recognizes and addresses opportunities for improvement. Uses best practices information to set stretch goals. Sets appropriate priorities among competing demands. Creatively manages resources and staffing issues. Maintains knowledge, ensures, and facilitates compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards. Uses available information technology to support day-to-day work operations. Drives a culture of continuous improvement using lean management tools to support, challenge and evolve processes to achieve system laboratory goals. Manages laboratory activities in Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs: Accountable for the preparation of the laboratory for inspection by accrediting agencies and carries out activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Develops, implements, or contributes to the development and implementation of quality monitors and performance improvement activities. Planning and Financial Management: Responsible for timely and accurate analysis and decision making to support laboratory business performance, operational and financial objectives. Plans for future developments including staffing, services, productivity and workload, computer and capital resources, space, and staff education. Ensures proper utilization of financial resources. Identifies opportunities and implements cost reduction initiatives along with initiatives for quality improvement. Identifies, recommends, and implements changes that will improve productivity and/or financial performance. Focuses on Customers: Understands the importance of patient experience. Sets an example of exemplary customer service. Anticipates customer needs, including those with different cultural needs and desires. Takes action to meet and exceed the needs of all customer groups. Continuously implements strategies to improve customer satisfaction. Continuously builds customer understanding by listening to customers. Qualifications Required Education Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes meeting qualifications as a general supervisor for high complexity testing as specified in CLIA ’88. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided); -OR- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR- A transcript evaluation verifying equivalency to a U.S. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university (Equivalency verification documentation must be provided); -OR- Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course and a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, or an appropriately related field (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided). Experience Candidates with baccalaureate or higher degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology must have 1 year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing; -OR- Candidates with qualifying baccalaureate degree and required semester hours must have 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing. License/Certification/Registration Applicant must possess or be eligible to receive appropriate Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification. If not certified at time of hire, must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. ASCP, ASCPi, or AMT – MLS or MT Laboratory certification in a specialty area will be considered. ASCP – CT or SCT ASCP or ASCPi – BB, C, CG, HTL, M, MB, SBB, SC, SCYM, SH, SM, SMB, SV or V. AMT – MDT, MLS or MT ACHI – CHS or CHT Preferred Education Masters of Business or Healthcare Administration (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided); -OR- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, or an appropriately related field (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided). Clinic roles: 20 CE hours covering applicable laboratory director responsibilities to meet CLIA Director role qualifications. Experience Five years’ experience in designated discipline or area of responsibility, including two years of supervisory experience. Clinic roles: 2 years’ training and/or experience in the clinical laboratory; -AND- 2 years’ experience supervising non-waived testing to meet CLIA Director role qualifications.
