Site Operations Manager

The Site Operations Manager (SOM) provides direction and guidance to the operational activities of the site with the objective of managing and controlling costs, maximizing growth and profitability in a sustainable manner, and promoting a continuous improvement environment. The SOM provides day-to-day Situational Leadership for the success of all team members using the Carmeuse guiding principles & values. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

Overall responsibility for site, including but not limited to Production KPIs, Sustainability Program, Opex and Capex Budgets, Environmental and Safety compliance, and Personnel development and management.  Develop and manage a strategic operations plan for the site, identifying opportunities for improvement and communicating the vision to all levels of the organization.  Oversight of daily operations through support of Production and Maintenance Managers Drives the safety culture at the site with a target of Zero Injuries Maintain relationships within the surrounding communities through outreach and volunteerism. Main point of contact for regulatory agencies including IDEM, MSHA, and EPA, ensuring that the site maintains compliance with all applicable permitting and agency requirements. Responsible for developing employees, identifying and providing training opportunities for employee growth. 

The successful candidate would possess the following qualities:

Able to relate to the shop floor and to the C-Suite. They should inspire trust and credibility when speaking. Confident in his/her own abilities/decisions/action plans and can portray that confidence to the rest of the team. Have a demonstrated track record of success in implementing positive change within a site.  This person should be energetic, and actively working towards improvements at the site. Hold the staff and site accountable for their actions and performance in an atmosphere that still garners creativity, risk taking, and results.  They should aim to praise the team when they perform well and provide constructive criticism to help them improve.  Be visible out in the plant, be curious about the people, the process and identify opportunities to advance the site. Be able to make a tough call, but also have the emotional intelligence to allow others to have a voice.  Be able to utilize this skill in decision making, communication and successful management of the site. Have a technical background to understand the site challenges and have a working knowledge of the equipment to help the staff when discussing problems and barriers to meeting KPIs.    Job Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mining, Business, or related field Progressive experience in mining or heavy engineering industry Managerial experience with increasing responsibility Outstanding judgment and mature business skills, with the ability to establish a strong rapport with senior management Demonstrated ability to take initiative, strong organization and prioritization skills, detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities Understanding of basic workings of plant equipment – mechanical/electrical exposure Demonstrable success in cultural 'turn around' a plus. Proven in leading operational excellence through applying behavior-based management
