The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Maintenance is currently recruiting for a Skilled Trade Specialist III in Baltimore City. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Nature of Work: This position is responsible for maintaining the Headquarters Complex facility and grounds. Responsibilities include responding to all emergency and routine complex maintenance related duties. This position will oversee and coordinate maintenance related activities with contractors, consultants, and other divisions within SHA. The Skilled Trade Specialist will also maintain the operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, humidity control and other specialized systems for equipment in the federally regulated Office of Materials Technology labs, Maryland State Operations Center, and temporary location of Maryland’s Department of Emergency Management, which all require 24/7 monitoring ability to respond to ensure these programs do not suspend their state-wide and national responsibilities.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience performing skilled trade work in one of the following areas: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding, depending on the essential job functions performed by the specific position.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess the following:
+ Knowledge and understanding of maintaining a facility and the grounds
+ Experience with emergency contracts and on-call contractors to verify scope of work being met
Notes:
1. Additional work experience performing skilled trades work as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
