Skilled Trade - Welder General - SE MI Locations - Dearborn, MI

Rate of Pay and Benefits:

Welders are paid a top hourly base rate of $42.195, plus applicable shift, overtime, and holiday premiums.  The starting rate for this position is $41.995 with pay increases to the top rate upon completion of three consecutive months of employment.

Candidates must have completed a bona fide apprenticeship, or have 8 years of previous experience, or have a combination of previous work experience and training equivalent to a bona fide apprenticeship program in the trade.

Knowledge in the construction or manufacturing industries, skilled in metal straightening and fabrication, proficient in the following welding methods: MIG, TIG, Heli-Arc, Oxy Acetylene, and Soldering. 

Uses electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from steel, titanium, copper, and other metals Welds small components like copper plumbing for residential use and large ones like pipelines for power plants or beams for buildings and bridges Consults blueprints and sketches in order to execute jobs and tasks to specification Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature Maintains a thorough knowledge of universal standards and specifications in order to meet building codes and legal requirements Develops working knowledge of dozens of methods used for welding a variety of materials and components Operates specialized machinery for industrial welding or supervises robots that do the same Trims metal components using heat, fire, and electricity Takes apart and disposes of large metal objects like automobiles, ships, and other structures Monitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes

Successful completion of a job interview, pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check are required.  Drug panel does not include THC.

Ability to perform tasks of the trade, stand for extended periods, walk unassisted, work at heights, work overhead including on ladders and platforms and manipulate tools typical of the trade. Tasks will require a certain amount of reaching, lifting, twisting, bending, and use of a PMHV or hilo. Ability to perceive differences in details and prints related to trade.  Must be able to effectively maneuver about vehicles, equipment, assembly lines or stations, and about facility.
