Skills Trainer (Pre-ETS)

JOB SUMMARY  

In 1935, Fedcap Rehabilitation Services was founded by three men in NYC who had sustained injuries in WWI and literally changed the world for people with physical disabilities. It now provides an array of services to youth and adults helping thousands each year graduate from high school, obtain vocational certification or a college degree, become work-ready, obtain meaningful employment, and achieve long-term economic well-being. Renamed The Fedcap Group in 2018, Fedcap Rehabilitation Services continues to be a trailblazer in providing opportunities for people with challenges and disabilities and their families.  

Mission: To create opportunities for people with barriers to economic well-being.

Coordinates internship activities related to the development and operation of a paid internship program for HS students 

Wage/Salary: $23 to $25 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program Manager Support

Develops resumes. Assists students in fulfilling curriculum requirements and monitors progress. Communicates with parents on student’s progress. Participates in networking opportunity events. Communicate with school staff, employers, and DVRS to create awareness and provide updates on program progress.

Internship Coordination

Develop a six-week internship opportunity based on the student’s abilities and interests at a local business. Develops and coordinates job sampling opportunities for each student before the start of the five-week internship. Coordinates schedules for all students and internships. Coordinates travel arrangements and provides travel instructions. Provides on-site job coaching for internships. Liaison with internship supervisors and managers. Conducts weekly internship progress assessments. Completes all documentation in a timely and professional manner; maintains excellent communication with stakeholders, including monthly update reports to referring counselor.
 

QUALIFICATIONS    

Education

Bachelor’s (BA or BS) required. 

Job Experience

Two years experience in a related social service/education field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.  Non-profit experience is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Demonstrable knowledge of  Mission, vision, and goals of The Fedcap Group and execution of relevant policies and procedures. Strong organizational, administration, presentation, and communication skills (both verbal and written). Microsoft Office and internet skills. Vocational needs of individuals with disabilities. Demonstrable ability to Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and believe in the rights and abilities of people with disabilities.  Possesses good mapping and planning skills; has a professional demeanor and appearance.  Manage time, set priorities; and to work independently.  Be patient, flexible, objective, trustworthy, and sensitive to the needs of individuals.

Software Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Other

Build strong interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Work cooperatively with others on a team. Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
