Job Title: Slitter Assistant
Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Slitter Operator/Slitter Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up slitter machines, feeding strips of steel into re-coilers, ensuring proper tracking of steel during processing, and inspecting materials for defects. This role requires the ability to lift heavy sheets of steel and maintain accurate records of processed coils.

ResponsibilitiesSetup slitter machines using micrometers and calipers to conduct measurements.Feed strips of steel into re-coilers.Ensure proper tracking of steel during processing.Crop off tail ends of heavy gauge finished products.Log all coils processed in the coil log.Observe and inspect material for any defects.Lift sheets of steel up to 100+ lbs.Essential Skills2+ years of experience operating a slitter machine.Ability to read a tape measure, caliper, and micrometer.Experience with steel coils.Ability to change out slitter heads.Experience working in a heavy industrial environment.Capability to lift 100+ lbs.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with light gauge/galvanized steel.Ability to operate a banding machine or overhead crane.Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.Experience with sheet metal fabrication and press brakes.Forklift operation and overhead crane experience.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The work environment is a steel processing center equipped with large rolls of steel, overhead cranes, slitters, and banding machines. Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots for safety. The facility is staffed with 33 employees and focuses on precision steel coil slitting, utilizing advanced machinery for accurate and efficient production. Other machinery includes forklifts, grinders, band saws, and cut-to-length equipment. Shifts are available from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sauk Village, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
