Koil is a Detroit based steel service center that processes and distributes various flat rolled metal products. Koil is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Slitter on First Shift. The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating the machine to slit continuous lengths of material.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Spaces rotary blades on machine shaft, according to the width specified for strips and turns setscrew to secure blades in positionMounts roll or bolt of material on machine supports and threads material over tension bar, between feed rollers, and under rotary bladesLaps end of slit material around take-up tubesStarts machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and windingMoves levers to stop, start, and regulate the speed of the machine and to align material with rotary bladesDisengages winding shaft and removes narrow rolls of materialReport all quality concernsVerify production run information for accuracyMonitor and inspect equipment for safe operation and/or advise management of any maintenance concerns.Follow safety procedures while operating slitter and other equipmentPerform other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.High School Diploma or GEDOne year certificate from college or technical or three to six months of slitting experience.Two or more years of experience preferred.Good mechanical ability, including the ability to use rulers, gauges, and calipers. Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications, primarily ExcelAbility to work independently and make good decisions without constant supervisionMust be able to read, write, and perform basic math.Effective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to maintain accurate recordsAbility to lift up to 50lbs.Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen requiredKoil is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
