Summary This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, Position Description Number D1226000 and is part of the OR UTES 1, National Guard. Responsibilities As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, WG-6610-8, this position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and inspection on a full range of small arms and related devices. (1) Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Diagnoses and identifies mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons, such as, automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, rocket launchers, mortars, and other small arms and accessories. (2) Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. After disassembly examines for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modifies small weapons by replacing obsolete parts. Applies finishing agents and test fires and/or performs operational checks of arms repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Applies modification work orders as required. (3) Uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms. (3) Ensures the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access. (4) May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ARNG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ARNG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ARNG. Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ARNG. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involved in the repairing, rebuilding, and modifying small arms, such as machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers, etc. Experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications, and drawings; must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment. WG-08 - Must have 12 months experience or training which demonstrates ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required. Experience in adjustment of levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems. Experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications, and drawings to determine operation, assembly, and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired, and modified, is required. Experience in using and maintaining a ariety of hand and power tools and gages is required. Tools include drills, files, saws, hammers, vises, and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances.
