Small Business Development Intern

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Small business Development Intern will support the continued development of the IRC in Tucson’s Small Business (Micro Enterprise Development) Program. The MED Program focuses on providing targeted outreach for small businesses in underserved communities, particularly refugee communities. They aid during economic recovery, including financial assistance and access to capital, contracting and procurement, marketing, operations, business development, and exporting industry-specific training.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Help assist business counselor in developing marketing material and teaching material for the program, by translating into key client languages.  Outreach in the community, making connections with Refugee-owned businesses and international markets to promote the Small Business Program, as well as recruit business-owners for coaching and teaching clients.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:  

Learn about different local business community resources. Work with the greater business community.  Learn how to plan business workshops.  Develop written and spoken language skills (Dari, Spanish or Arabic).

REQUIREMENTS:

Comfortable with making new acquaintances and meeting strangers. Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, or Dari, both written and spoken. Excellent organizational, record keeping, and analytical skills.  Strong written and verbal communication skills. Prior experience working with immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs is strongly desired; experience in the non-profit sector strongly preferred. Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and maintain responsibility for multiple tasks. Excellent computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the ability to learn the custom computer programs used for the program.
