Small Engine Mechanic
Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Carolina Lakes Golf Course Shaw AFB, SC. Responsibilities Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots equipment used in the golf activity to include gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, automatic type electrical engines, reel and rotary type mowers, automatic, electrically controlled irrigation system, brake system, chassis and tired. Institutes and monitors a preventive maintenance program which includes a system for keeping records, scheduling equipment for routine maintenance and keeping an inventory of known high-wear items (belts, filters, blades, etc.). Maintains and repairs electronic automatic irrigation controller, valves and sprinklers; replace broken PVC pipe up to 8' inch diameter. Locates and repairs timing mechanisms, signal lines, and electrical lines; installs new irrigation systems. Works with blueprints, drawings and "as built" plans for laying out work. Operates equipment including out front type mowers, triplex reel mowers, utility type tractors, utility turf vehicles, large hydraulic lift fairway units, motorized trap rakes, sprayers, spreader, top dresses, weed eaters, etc. Keeps inventory of repair parts for sprinkler system. Re-sods and seeds areas of trenching and returns turf area to its natural configuration. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifying Experience: Have two (2) years progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of small engines and equipment. Be able to read and understand equipment manuals. Have experience in the full range of repairing, dissembling and troubleshooting gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, automatic type electrical engines, reel, and rotary type mowers, automatic electrically controlled irrigation systems, brake systems, chassis and tired. Such experience gained in golf facility, parks and recreations department, etc. Be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). This is a drug testing designated positon. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
