JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Smeal College of Business seeks an experienced Academic Adviser to work in a fast-paced, high energy academic environment. Extensive knowledge of university policy and procedures that apply to the matriculation and the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students is required.
The responsibilities of this individual include:
+ Provide expert level advising to Integrated MAcc (iMAcc) students to ensure compliance with Smeal undergraduate requirements for bachelor’s in accounting and bachelor’s in other Smeal major if the student is pursuing dual track in accounting.
+ Additional knowledge of courses taken in the iMAcc program is required to ensure students will meet undergraduate requirements since some courses are shared with undergraduate and graduate transcript.
+ iMAcc program students strive to earn 150 credits by graduate date so ensuring all students meet Smeal undergraduate requirements and plan courses to enable students to graduate in 4, 4 ½, or 5 years depending on student’s goals.
+ Will be working with students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th year in the iMAcc program.
+ Utilize excel tracking schedule to assist students with planning courses in iMAcc program.
+ Understand requirements and ensure compliance with Schreyer Honors College policies and procedures as some of iMAcc students are also Smeal Schreyer Scholars.
+ Assist in the implementation of iMAcc programming
+ Provide academic advising to iMAcc students; guide students in course selection and scheduling; resolve academic problems ; monitor academic progress
+ Assess other student needs and make professional referrals
+ Serve as a resource for iMAcc Director, academic advisers, and students
+ Interpret university policies, procedures, and curriculum to students and faculty in the college
+ Contribute to advising committees and/or working groups related to areas that may include student success, diversity and inclusion, assessment and evaluation, academic policies and/or staff development
This position requires interaction with the Accounting department, Integrated MAcc director, students, parents, faculty, and various college staff members and may require occasional weekend and evening hours.
Other duties include meeting with prospective students and families and participating in various college programs such as New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, Spend A Summer Day, and other programs as assigned.
Requires a master’s degree, plus 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will have a strong background in academic advising with a proven track record and commitment to serving diverse student populations. Competencies critical to success include excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong attention to detail; commitment to honor and integrity; sensitivity to the needs of others; ability to work independently and as part of a team; effective knowledge of computer applications, including excel, and efficiently manage time, balance multiple responsibilities, and adapt to change. Experience with Smeal undergraduate advising preferred.
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
