Social and Emotional Specialist- Durant Child Care

Job Purpose or Objective:  Coordinates the implementation of early learning social and emotional programming as an approach to positively affect children, families, and staff.  Help teachers’ foster growth in attending to the social-emotional (SE) needs and development of children by incorporating healthy social and emotional practices in classroom instruction, personal interactions, and daily classroom routines and procedures; in addition to nurturing the development of skills in children by providing on-site instruction and technical assistance. You will report to the Child Care Director.

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

 Primary Tasks:

1.       You will provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers with implementing best practices to           promote SE, establishing supportive learning environments, and developing supportive classroom management               practices.

2.       Lead professional learning opportunities to improve instruction for SE in early learning environments.

3.      Support teaching staff through in-class observations, modeling, and side-by-side coaching to improve teacher                  practice as it relates to socially and emotionally healthy practice and skill instruction.

4.       Provide teaching staff with identified SE supports and plan to strengthen success in the classroom environment               by identifying the purpose of behaviors and developing teacher-child partnership agreements to decrease                       undesired behaviors.

5.       You will conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify teaching and learning needs, using the information           to help organize and implement strategies with teaching staff and children.

6.       Coordinate the Conscious Discipline Action Team (CDAT).

7.       Complete assigned/warranted documentation of child records and uphold ethical standards related to the whole-             child educational process.

8.       Provide referrals to the Mental Health Consultant regarding children in need of individualized mental health care.

9.       Promote team cooperation between center-level staff, administration, and families to ensure children experience a            learning environment that is safe, nurturing, and connected to your educational success.

10.      Perform other tasks as may be assigned.

Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, or 4 years directly related experience.

·         Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education teaching certification

·         Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Teaching practices and Behavioral development and functioning,                   including the biological, physiological, and genetic underpinnings

·         One (1) year of organized experiences in early child development with classroom and field experience, including                multiple opportunities of proficient demonstration of assessment, mentoring, and adult and child instruction

·         Three (3) years’ experience working with young children (less than 8 years of age)
