Social Emotional Learning Specialist Requisition Number 2023-6939 Overview

Primary Functions: 

The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist provides an array of services for youth who may need additional support and guidance in their personal growth.  Services include, but are not limited to check-ins during Club, cooperative peer interactions and group games, positive behavior reinforcement, and social and coping skills, development and enhancement. Using a trauma informed care model, the SEL Specialist addresses an individual child’s social and emotional learning needs through a multi faceted approach within the Club. The SEL Specialist will collaborate with BGCNW leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate SEL programming within the Club.

 

 Starting Salary: $32,500-$37,500 Annual

 

Responsibilities

Key Roles: Essential Job Responsibilities:

PREPARE YOUTH FOR SUCCESSCreate an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:Provide warm welcome to all membersReview, remind, and reinforce expectation with membersPromote and stimulate program participationProvide positive behavior support and response for all membersAssist in crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions geared to the capacities of the memberCreate an environment where all members feel physically, mentally, and emotionally safeActively participate in meetings that support BGCNW members and families as needed

 

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATIONPlan, prepare, implement and evaluate all SEL programs that work towards the 3 Priority Outcome Areas: Good Character and Citizenship, Academic Success, and Healthy Lifestyles.Connect the Club values to the activities in a developmentally appropriate mannerSupport member check-in and check-out processMonitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of Club at all times.Utilizes Zones of Regulation and Positive Action curriculum.

 

CHILD SUPERVISION AND GROUP MANAGEMENT Ensure that positioning in the Club allows for constant supervision of the maximum amount of membersThe supervision, safety, and well-being of all Club members, whether in large or small groups, at all times (on/off site)Account for all Club members, take attendance at the beginning of every program, and follow check-in/out procedures Provide positive behavior support and response for all membersProvide guidance and role modeling to membersWalk members safely between locations and on water/bathroom breaksAssist Club members with belongings, lost and found, sunscreen/water, trash pick-up, etc.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTComplete all on-boarding trainings and other trainings as requested by SupervisorSet, work toward, and achieve measurable professional development goalsAttend all in-person trainings as stated by Direct Supervisor or Director of OperationsDisplay appropriate behavior (action and language) around members, parents, and staff

 

ADMINISTRATIVE Demonstrate responsibility in regard to work schedule, meetings & trainings Complete and submit paperwork accurately (timesheets, lesson plans, certifications, etc.)Dress in appropriate attire/uniformMaintain a positive attitude while working, help wherever needed, work well with co-workersDisplay good customer service skillsAccept feedback and makes necessary correctionsFollow all Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northwood policies and procedures

 

OTHER Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by supervisorAbility to relate well to members and previous experience working with members required

 

RELATIONSHIPSInternal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and explain guidelines/instructions established.External: Enlist external community agencies and parents to assist in implementation of specialized program activities. Qualifications Preferred Skills/KnowledgeBachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or other related fieldAt least 2 years of experience in youth developmentAbility to communicate effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, as well as other organization personnelAbility to motivate youth and manage behavior problemsAbility to deal with the general publicAbility to plan and implement quality programs for youthAbility to organize and supervise members in a safe environmentObtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 3 month of employmentValid State Driver’s License
