QUALIFICATIONS 

 

State licensure at the independent level as a social worker, or professional counselor by the respective Committee for Professional Regulation. Coursework and professional experience that indicates knowledge of management/supervision techniques, mental health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, treatment of major mental disorders and/or psychological evaluation techniques. Experience working with the Severely Mentally Ill is required. Two years supervisory experience is preferred. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

Correctional officers provide security; however, some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault from patients exists. As in any healthcare setting, employees may be exposed to communicable and/or infectious diseases. Inside work with periodic traveling (inter and intra state) to other locations with exposure to weather, temperature extremes and hazardous road conditions.  Frequent standing and walking while presenting or performing job duties. Adheres to site/contract specific on-call requirements.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

 

Employees must be able to perform the following: 

Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Required to kneel, stoop, crouch and/or crawl occasionally. Must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising your health and well-being or that of your fellow employees or that of inmates. Long periods sitting, typing and reading from a computer screen may be required. 

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

JOB SUMMARY 

 

Provide direct clinical and consultation services in accordance with the policies and procedures of YesCare Corp and the Department of Corrections.   Responsible for overall planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and monitoring of all institutional contracted mandates, related to the residential treatment unit program.  Provide clinical and administrative supervision and direction to residential treatment unit staff.  Maintain effective communication and work collaboratively with Department of Corrections, YesCare Corp staff, and institutional administrative personnel.  Coordinate clinical needs with Psychiatry within a correctional setting, in order to service effectively the needs of the patient.  Maintain accountability for services provided through appropriate documentation and participation in Quality Improvement program.   

 

JOB DUTIES 

 

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.   Provide backup supervisory coverage for the Mental Health Director. Plan, supervise, coordinate and manage the clinical services provided by mental health staff working at the Residential Treatment Unit as designated by the Director of Mental Health. Assign specific duties and clinical responsibilities to mental health staff in accordance with the position descriptions, education and professional experience and to notify the Director of Mental Health Services of staff inability to perform such duties and responsibilities in a competent, ethical and professional manner. Provision of routine mental health services such as individual and group intervention, treatment planning, and discharge planning. Provision of crisis intervention services when requested by institutional staff, medical staff, or by patient self-referral.  Crisis intervention can include consultation with institutional staff regarding management concerns, appropriate housing, referral and/or follow-up.  Crisis intervention activities may require on-call services. Work collaboratively with the Health Services Administrator and Mental Health Director on issues pertaining to the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) survey and timekeeping. Provide direct clinical services and consultation services in accordance with the policies, procedures and regulations of the institution and the Department of Corrections, and in accordance with the standards of the NCCHC. Represent the interests of mental health services with the institution’s administrative staff under the direction of the Mental Health Director to facilitate cooperation in the delivery of mental health services. Interrelate and work effectively with the Department of Corrections’ Staff, patients and outside support agencies as delegated by the Mental Health Director. Abide by security regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with state law, the Department of Corrections’ policy, and the standards of the NCCHC. Provide all administrative reports and documentation as required. Allocate staff resources in the Residential Treatment Unit to ensure that institutional needs for clinical and consultative services are met in a timely, professional manner. Supervise and monitor Residential Treatment Unit staff to ensure compliance with the health care policies, procedures and regulations of the institution and the Department of Corrections; the responsibilities/duties of their specific position descriptions, the employee policies and procedures of YesCare Corp and the employee guidelines of the Department of Corrections. Maintain open communication with institutional administrative security, medical. mental health and support staff to facilitate operation of mental health services in the Residential Treatment Unit and institutional needs. Provide staff coaching and performance evaluations including applicable documentation in a timely, professional manner under the direction of the Director of Mental Health Services. Provide in-service opportunities to staff in the development/refinement of standard operations procedures. Actively involved in staff selection and recruitment. On-site coordination of psychiatric services by provision of administrative support and patient monitoring as related to patients assigned to the Residential Treatment Unit. Notify the Mental Health Director and Health Services Administrator in a timely manner of clinical or administrative concerns that may have a significant impact on the Residential Treatment Unit program. Compliance with employee standards of Yes Care Corp and applicable employee standards of the Department of Corrections.  Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationships and timely notification of supervisory personnel of absences from institution. Assure provision of clinical evaluations as required by the Department of Corrections administrative staff or other appropriate agencies.  Evaluations are to be completed in a timely, professional manner and within the scope of staff members education and professional experience. Provide insight, ideas, thoughts, numeric data and technical information. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Mental Health Director.
