Summary The position is located in the Social Services Department of Whiteriver Service Unit, Whiteriver, AZ. The Peer Support Technician position will be under Social Work Service on a multidisciplinary team supporting engagement in Mental Health Services. Peer Technicians perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that assist patients in articulating their goals of recovery, learning and practicing new skills and modeling effective coping techniques. Responsibilities The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 10 days after the JOA open date. Orients tribal members new to the programs in which they work about the services, hours, locations, staff and other pertinent information necessary for the tribal member to understand the program and how to utilize it. Assist tribal members to articulate personal goals for recovery through the use of one-on-one and group sessions. During these sessions, the incumbent may assist tribal members in identifying their skills, strengths, supports and the resources needed to aid them in achieving those goals. Observes behaviors that might indicate difficulty adapting or responding to treatment (e.g., missed assessment appointments, failure to attend or maintain abstinence, risk to self or others, disruptive behavior), completes appropriate documentation, and reports concerns to the treatment or recovery team in a timely manner. Use ongoing individual and group sessions to teach tribal members how to identify and combat negative self-talk and how to identify and overcome fears by providing a forum which allows group members to share their experiences. **This is a Temporary Appointment NTE 3 Years.** Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0102-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: assisting in articulating goals for recovery, learning and practicing new skills, helping monitor progress, assisting in treatment, modeling effective coping techniques. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0102-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing non-professional client services, assistance and support to professionals in residential treatment environment. This work also provided experience in leadership such as interacting with other staff to influence, motivate, and challenge them. OR; Must have successfully completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR; Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a Certification. To meet this requirement you must have on of the following: Credentialed Peer/Recovery Support Specialist via AHCCCS - recognized Peer Support Employment Training Programs. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
