Position Summary
Under the direction of the school leader, the teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate instructional program and learning environment for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
• Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
• Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
• Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
• Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
• Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Manages behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
• Provides appropriate feedback on student work.
• Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust teaching strategies.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
• Updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
• Prepares required reports on students and activities.
• Participates in departments, school, district, and parent meetings.
• Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Observes and evaluates student’s performance and development.
• Assigns and grades work, homework, tests, and assignments.
• Performs other related work as required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
• Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
• Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
• Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, and state.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education in appropriate subject area.
• Level 4 or higher teaching certification from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Preferred Qualifications
• One to three years of teaching experience
• Experience teaching in alternative school setting
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Working Conditions:
• Normal classroom environment in a secured facility
Physical Demands:
• Routine physical activities associated with normal classroom environment.
• Moderate lifting as required.
