Job Description

The Washington Post Opinions team seeks a Washington-based journalist to produce and edit social-first video, with an emphasis on connecting with and serving new audiences.

This producer will ensure Opinions commentary and reporting is published with context and speed for The Post’s on- and off-platform audiences. They will support experimentation with video features across social surfaces, finding ways to showcase Post Opinions’ vibrant personalities, foster community and deepen conversations. Top candidates will have a clear idea for how video can grow audience and reach on social platforms and have strong ideas for various video surfaces and formats. Creative thinking and a desire to build, iterate and grow our storytelling will be essential.

Responsibilities

Introduce opinion personalities to social audiences by shooting, editing and producing compelling storytelling for the @PostOpinions Instagram and TikTok accounts, as well as The Post site

Help social media audiences understand the news by elevating the commentary of our opinion writers using videos, captions and posts, and by conceiving of and shooting insightful videos both in the office and in the field

Work with columnists on best practices for social-friendly video formats

Work with the team to develop regular formats or series for video content

Elevate The Post’s brand by collaborating with audience editors and designers to ensure video content aligns with The Post’s brand and style guidelines

 

Qualifications

2+ years of relevant journalism experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Demonstrated experience editing and producing for at least one major social platform

An understanding of how to edit and present journalism in ways native to each social platform while ensuring the veracity and accuracy of the work

Editing and familiarity with Adobe products

An ability to work quickly and under tight deadlines

Experience measuring and analyzing audience engagement success metrics preferred

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:

64,300.00 - 96,500.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
